Hogwarts Legacy hits another incredible sales milestone as the title surpasses Elden Ring’s lifetime sales in the UK. Hogwarts Legacy received generally positive reviews when it launched in February, with many praising the Hogwarts castle and its level of detail.
Its critical reception was accompanied by commercial success, as the Hogwarts Legacy sold more than 12 million copies within its first two weeks. Hogwarts Legacy also broke the record for the largest number of WB games to launch on Steam, and it has remained near the top of the sales charts since its release. It has now been confirmed that Hogwarts Legacy has passed another incredible sales milestone by surpassing one of the best-selling games of 2022.
As reported by GamesIndustry, Hogwarts Legacy has surpassed Elden Ring’s total UK sales in just over a month. Elden Ring was a huge success for Bandai Namco Entertainment with sales of over 20 million copies in its first year. It is also one of the best-selling games of 2022 in the United States, only to be surpassed by Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.
Hogwarts Legacy has outsold the Elden Ring in the UK in just one month making its market performance even more impressive, especially since it has yet to launch on all platforms.
Hogwarts Legacy is scheduled to release on PS4, Xbox One and Switch later this year, so fans can expect its total sales to be much higher by the end of 2023. PS4 and Xbox One were set to launch in April, but they were recently postponed to May 5 due to the developer’s focus on delivering the best version possible on these platforms.
According to the same report, Hogwarts Legacy will surpass sales of LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga in the UK when technical data becomes available over the weekend. It will be interesting to see where it ends up in the overall grossing charts and whether it can catch up with Modern Warfare 2.
It was also the best-selling game of the week in the UK with a 31% drop from the previous week. FIFA 23 is second in the rankings, with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Metroid Prime Remastered taking the next two spots. The rest of the list includes popular games like God of War Ragnarok and Grand Theft Auto 5, with Animal Crossing: New Horizons taking the last spot.
