Chi You or Chui You or Si You is an ancient hero that is not clear whether real or imaginary of the Miao people in ancient China. According to records, Xiu was the leader of the Cuu Le tribe. Between the years 2700 – 2598 BC, Chi You fought with Emperor Xuanyuan – who is considered one of the Five Emperors of ancient China. This story of unknown fact has partly created Chi You’s popularity in Chinese culture.
Chi You is considered a person with extremely strong fighting power. For this reason, later, the name Xi You also became a synonym for “war” in Chinese. Many people see him as the god of war, many others fear Chi You and see him as the one who brings disaster to all mankind. No one can be sure whether Xi You is real or not. The clearest evidence of this character is a relief of the Han dynasty. Xi You’s existence may be a mystery, but the “legend of the ghost god Chi You” has always attracted many readers.
According to legend, Xiu is a great demon god with the head of a buffalo, with two wings on his back. He has 81 brothers, each of whom possesses extraordinary combat power and strange bodies. Confident in his strength, Xiu declares himself unable to be overpowered by any force. This statement of Chi You reached Nu Wa Nuong Nuong’s ears. The goddess then threw a stone from Taishan to attack Chi You. Xiu was lucky to escape. Not long after that, Emperor Xuan Vien established the powerful Huaxia Tribe and attacked the Cuu Le clan of Chi You. Thanks to the help of other great demons, Xi You consecutively defeated Emperor Xuanyuan 72 times.
However, Xi You can’t win forever. Thanks to the support of two characters, Nu Bat and Huyen Nu, Emperor Xuanyuan defeated Chi You at the battle of Trac Loc. There are some versions that say that Chi You was later killed. Others say that Chi You surrendered and became a serving general under Xuanyuan’s reign.
Based on the above legend, it can be seen that the author team of Shuumatsu No Valkyrie – Record Of Ragnarok decided to turn Chi You into a demon. During the 6th battle, Zerofuku was also transformed into the Three Weeks Magic God. The constant mention of the Magic God can be a “trail” for both gods and humanity about to confront a new evil force in the manga that is receiving a lot of love from readers, Record Of Ragnarok or not? The answer will probably be in 2022.
The shape of Xiu in Record Of Ragnarok is quite similar to the legend, except for the winged detail. Other details are almost unchanged. Instead of being defeated by Xuan Vien in the 73rd battle, Magic God Chi You used his overwhelming strength to force those who wanted to claim the title of king to sacrifice to him. The emperors who trembled before Chi You could have been Emperor Xuanyuan and a few others before Qin Shi Huang appeared. Xi You also doesn’t have any brothers. The Magic God acted alone as a way to demonstrate his ultimate combat power.
There are a lot of interesting details surrounding Qin Wang, but the authors chose the story of the legend of Chi You as the foundation for the power of Doanh Chinh. This could be one way the Record Of Ragnarok writers team is gearing up for a new war in this manga, where gods and humans will join forces against fearsome ghosts like Chi You.
