Netflix has partnered with technology and interactive game company Immersive Gamebox (formerly Electric Gamebox).
The partnership aims to give Squid Game fans an authentic experience. Immersive Gamebox builds games based on Squid Games in-house with its game content studio. The games included in the library include many licensed games, including the recent Angry Birds game in partnership with Rovio Entertainment.
Since it’s a licensing agreement, the Squid Game experience will generate revenue for Netflix. And as we know, Netflix is in need of revenue and subscriber growth.
Immersive Gamebox will bring the most watched Netflix movie The Squid Game to an hour-long immersive digital game format. The game allows players to compete with friends to survive all 6 challenges of the program.
Similar to the reality show, players can only advance to the next round if they pass. Every time a player fails to survive, you lose your life. Every time a player wins, you will earn money. After all, the experience is just for fun.
Multiplayer games are played by a minimum of two and a maximum of 6. The company recommends that players over the age of 16 can participate. The Squid Game experience is available at all Immersive Gamebox locations in the US and Europe, including Utah, Illinois, Texas, California, Colorado and Virginia, as well as three other locations in London, UK.
The Korean TV series Squid Game has impressed viewers with 1.65 billion hours of viewing in the first 4 weeks of its release. Not to mention the hundreds of people dressed up as characters during last year’s Halloween and a TikTok trend called challenge that flooded the app in September 2021.
Netflix has signed up for an immersive, adults-only (16+) interactive experience based on Squid Game. The experience will be available at a new location in the Lower East Side neighborhood of New York City.
The multiplayer game will see players (2 to 6 playable at a time) navigating challenges based on the Netflix franchise, including Red Light Blue Light and Marble. The experience will take place in the company’s Gamebox and will use touchscreen and motion-sensing technology.
