There were three popular manga series published in Weekly Shonen Jump in the early 2000s: Naruto, One Piece, and Bleach. All three of these series have had long runs, featured in manga magazines, consistently ranked high in popularity polls, and had high sales for their releases. All three are unstoppable giants in the manga world.
Perhaps what makes all three of these series so famous is the way the story is built with similarities. Each series is an excellent fighting manga where the characters face off against each other in intense battles. Of course, these battles take place in quite similar motifs that make Naruto, One Piece and Bleach so popular. Let’s take a look at these similarities!
All three series have similar characters, especially the main character. Luffy, Naruto and Ichigo are all brave, energetic young men with a lot of potential for growth. All 3 have an attitude of never giving up on life and always solving problems directly. They all aspire and train to become the strongest.
For Luffy, it’s becoming the Pirate King, for Naruto it’s becoming the Hokage – the top ninja in Konoha, and Ichigo wishes to have enough strength to protect his loved ones. A lot of the people the main characters meet in their adventures are like that. They all encounter cute girls, some unfriendly rivals, wise mentors, best friends and bloodthirsty villains.
All three of these popular shonen manga share many similarities in their handling of battles. Each story is geared towards one-on-one battles between the protagonist, friends and allies willing to fight for the protagonist. Meanwhile, the main villains use a lot of power to take the overwhelming lead. This can lead to characters siding with the protagonist pushing their limits to unleash their untapped potential and win.
The constant exchange of reaching new heights to surpass the competition runs through the long run of all three of the series we mentioned above. The characters will use all kinds of skills and strategies to win a war.
The theme of the series
All three series embody friendship, effort, and victory, the core themes of Shonen Jump. Friendship has a broad meaning, besides actual friends, it can include anyone who supports the main character’s success such as family, buddies and anyone else they know. chanced upon them on their journey.
Effort refers to the difficult journey the protagonists set out to achieve their goals. Part of this is their willingness to be consistent with their goals. Then there was the harsh, challenging and arduous training they went through on their own. Finally, it is the attitude of never giving up to keep the spirit and determination to conquer your goals.
The power of friendship is very famous in the series that we mentioned above. Friends play an important role in the protagonist’s life: Friends help each other and motivate each other to be better and provide mental and emotional support when times are tough. The protagonist will often say that they could not have reached their place in life without their friends.
The villain’s ideals often reject friendship. They will explain how friendship is the weakness that holds people back and how true strength comes from an individual’s abilities. The goal of the heroes is to prove the villains wrong by using trust and teamwork to win. Villains will fail because they cannot rely on others like the protagonist.
