Recently, a court in Shanghai has ruled in favor of the developer of Mobile Legends: Bang Bang – Moonton Games in the legal battle against Tencent. Specifically, according to documents obtained by Esports Insider, the court ruled that Moonton was slandered when Tencent took action to damage the reputation of the developer of Mobile Legends: Bang Bang.
However, it should be clearly understood that this does not mean that Moonton won the lawsuit against Tencent over the plagiarism story between League of Legends and Mobile Legends. This verdict is a completely different story. Specifically, it is alleged that Tencent has taken actions to contact Moonton’s partner in Indonesia, RevivalTV, right before the MPL e-sports tournament.
Tencent is said to have confirmed that it has won the ongoing copyright lawsuit between Riot’s League of Legends (owned by Tencent) and Mobile Legends. However, this case is still in dispute and there is no such ruling. Tencent claims that Moonton’s CEO violated non-compete agreements after he was terminated from his contract at the group.
Tencent lost in this case because the court decided it was wrong to notify business partners that they had won the case, while in fact, Tencent has not really won the plagiarism lawsuit between League of Legends. and Mobile Legends: Bang Bang. Therefore, Tencent was forced to compensate Moonton for this incident with a total amount of 220,000 yuan (about 30,600 USD).
