Despite the recent major partnership between Disney and Sea of Thieves, PlayStation players still can’t enjoy this pirate game.
Kodoani.com – Sea of Thieves has been an Xbox exclusive since launch, but its recent partnership with Disney gives PlayStation players hope. An open-world pirate-themed game developed by Rare and published by Microsoft Game Studios in 2018.
The game’s newest content, called Sea of Thieves : A Pirate’s Life, attracted more interest in the already successful game. Despite its past exclusivity, PlayStation players are likely to expect it to appear on other platforms with this major update.

Sea Of Thieves cannot be played on any PlayStation device
Unfortunately, there is no way to play Sea of Thieves on PlayStation. Sea of Thieves currently only launches on Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and on PC. This makes it impossible for PlayStation players to jump into the fray between Pirates of the Caribbean and Sea of Thieves.
This partnership may have opened a door for Disney, but the battle between Xbox and PlayStation exclusivity is as fierce as ever. Microsoft is well aware of Sony’s desire to have games on their consoles to attract more players.
The outlook is not good
The biggest problem is that game development studio Rare is now owned by Xbox Game Studios. Even if the studio was somehow cut off (which is also highly suspicious), the game was developed under an exclusivity agreement with the parent corporation.
It’s really a pity as so many secrets remain undiscovered and a different player base could be just what the Sea of Thieves world needs. It’s not impossible, but there isn’t really any talk of the possibility, at least not publicly.
Have a chance
Keep in mind that MLB The Show 21 recently landed on the Xbox platform despite being a PlayStation exclusive and developed by a studio owned by Sony. This is supposed to be a decision made by Major League Baseball, but there’s a similar one for Sea of Thieves that also takes the leap.
Because there are in-game purchases, Xbox can allow PlayStation to sell games as long as they keep a sizable portion of the revenue. This is a careful balancing act to do, but it is one that has been done before.
Sea of Thieves was released on March 20, 2018 and is available for PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
