Jujutsu Kaisen is expected to end with one or three main characters dying. This is not good news for Yuji, Gojo, Megumi and Nobara.
Jujutsu Kaisen is a manga series written by Gege Akutami. The series follows Yuji Itadori, an ordinary high school student who accidentally swallows one of the fingers of Ryomen Sukuna, the king of curses. This makes Yuji Sukuna’s vessel and has great power. Yuji joins the Tokyo Jujutsu school to learn how to control his powers and destroy Sukuna.
The four main characters of Jujutsu Kaisen are Yuji Itadori, Satoru Gojo, Megumi Fushiguro and Nobara Kugisaki. They are all students of Tokyo Jujutsu School and have extraordinary strength. However, they also face many dangers, including curses and other cursed witches.
So which main character in Jujutsu Kaisen has the best chance of survival?
Satoru Gojo
Satoru Gojo is the character closest to death in Jujutsu Kaisen. In chapter 236, “Heading South,” he is cleaved in half by Sukuna, marking a formal end to their battle. For most of this chapter, Gojo has been talking to his lost friends at an airport, which symbolizes purgatory. If this chapter isn’t a sign of Gojo’s death, then nothing else is.
However, there are still readers who hold hope in their hearts. Some people have suggested that Gojo could use his reverse engineering to resurrect. Being pushed to the brink of death can cause Gojo to evolve his powers. All of this would be consistent with what happened when he was “killed” by Toji Fushiguro. However, some fans think this is unlikely because his brain and stomach are both damaged. Even if Gojo was alive, he couldn’t control the flow of haunted energy in his body.
Less optimistic fans have suggested that Kenjaku will come to claim Gojo’s body. Now that Gojo is dead, there’s no better time to take on the power of one of the greatest jujutsu masters of the modern era. Of course, this depends on Kenjaku’s willingness to abandon Geto and control the Spirit of Darkness. Even though Infinite and Six Eyes are strong, Geto’s power may have been enough to bypass Gojo’s power.
Nobara Kugisaki
After being attacked by Mahito, Nobara Kugisaki’s fate becomes uncertain at best. Her body was seriously injured. When Aoi Todo and Arata Nitta appeared, Nitta tried to treat Nobara’s wounds. Unfortunately, he was unable to restore her breathing and heartbeat. However, he said because her injuries were still fresh, the possibility of her survival was not zero.
Since then, little information has been revealed about Nobara’s fate. After more than 100 chapters after her “death”, fans are still uncertain about the outcome. Hope for her survival exists among fans, because there is no concrete corpse.
In Chapter 210, Yuji worries about Hana Kurusu replacing Nobara in the group. Although referring to Yuji’s fear, some fans interpreted it as confirmation of Nobara’s passing.
Megumi Fushiguro
Megumi Fushiguro is said to be the closest person out of danger. However, this only means that he is the last person in the group at risk of death. In Chapter 212, “The Ripening, Part 2,” Sukuna transfers from Yuji’s body to Megumi’s body. Now, Megumi is the one who has to die at the end of the series. The only thing for him to survive is if Sukuna is expelled from his body.
The only thing keeping Megumi alive now is the fact that he didn’t have a goodbye. Unlike Gojo or Nobara, he does not experience near-death states that cause his life to flash before his eyes. However, this just means that Megumi’s possession cannot be the last time fans see him. That would be too mediocre, even for a series as dark as Jujutsu Kaisen.
Yuji Itadori
In Jujutsu Kaisen, Yuji Itadori was initially the most likely to die in his group. In the original story, Yuji planned to eat all 20 of Sukuna’s fingers and would then be accepted for destruction.
Unfortunately for Yuji, however, Sukuna has other plans. In Chapter 212, “The Ripening, Part 2,” he uses the one minute of freedom he gained through a binding promise to transfer from Yuji’s body to Megumi’s body. This reverses Yuji and Megumi’s ability to survive.
Among Gojo, Megumi, and Nobara, no one knows for sure their fate, the Jujutsu Kaisen storyline could make Yuji the only surviving member of their group. This will be especially heartbreaking because Yuji’s grandfather once told him that he should die surrounded by loved ones.
If he had been sacrificed to destroy Sukuna as planned, that would have been his way of fulfilling that promise. It would also prove Gojo’s pessimistic complaint that all jujutsu masters die alone to be wrong. Although Yuji’s death would be heartbreaking, it could have profound meaning in many ways.
