Kodoani.com – The official website for the anime adaptation of the fantasy novel Lonely Castle in the Mirror of Mizuki Tsujimura announced that the film was included in the list of 11 titles competing for the 2023 Annecy International Animated Film Festival’s Crystal Award for feature films. This year’s festival will be held in France from June 11 to 17.
Previous Japanese animated films that have won the top prize in the feature film category include Porco Rosso (Hayao Miyazaki / 1993), Pom Poko (Isao Takahata / 1995) and Lu over the wall (Masaaki Yuasa / 2017).
The anime, directed by Keiichi Hara and A-1 Pictures, was released in 307 theaters across Japan on December 23, 2022, then ranked first on Filmmarks’ first-day satisfaction chart. with an average rating of 3.94/5.0 based on 455 reviews. Its domestic total reportedly hit one billion yen ($7.47 million).
Director Keiichi Hara’s 2010 film Colorful won the Audience Award and Special Prize at the 2011 film festival, and his 2015 film Miss Hokusai received the Jury Prize. The film’s official website writes that The Lonely Castle in the Mirror is also expected to receive an award. The film’s official screening is scheduled for Monday, June 12.
