League of Legends officially celebrated 10 years of development on August 8, let’s look back at the highlights and milestones of the national game.
In the previous article, we learned about the first 5 years of the 10-year journey of League of Legends. Let’s follow the rest to see what interesting milestones League of Legends has recently had.
2017: GAM created an earthquake at MSI and Worlds
Boba Marines changed their name to GIGABYTE Marines and replaced SAJ as the dominant League of Legends player in 2017 when they won all the championships in the domestic league and the GPL. GAM even showed its destructive power when it lost only 1 match during the VCS domestic tournament and also quickly destroyed ASC – the representative from Thailand 3-0 in the GPL Spring. and Summer to participate in MSI and Worlds 2017.
The return of a Vietnamese team in the international arena really created a sensation when GAM showed a very fast and strong style of play, fighting continuously. At MSI 2017, the somewhat wild gameplay that is the identity of the VCS region has partly helped GAM quickly defeat opponents from other regions to be in the top 6 strongest teams. GAM then also got 3 wins against G2, TSM and WE, ending the tournament in 6th place overall.
At Worlds 2017, GAM was still in destructive form that stormed Group B against Immortals and Fnatic. Despite the defeat in the subsequent tie-break against Fnatic, Levi’s performance with champions like Kha’Zix, Nocturne, and his teammates created an earthquake and made Riot Games pay more attention. to our region some time later.
2018: Necessary bass notes after success
After GAM’s achievements in 2017, Riot Games has officially separated VCS from GPL, to become the next independent region with a ticket to Worlds. However, in 2018, the two pillars of GAM, Levi and Optimus, left the team, making VCS not really have a high-class team in the international arena. EVOS in Spring or PVB in Summer weren’t strong enough to take down teams from major regions. What we remember most is probably the extremely harsh interview of the “great-grandfather” of Warzone that “I’m afraid of anyone”.
In the game, many generals were also released by Riot Games throughout the development phase of League of Legends. Along with that, there are notable meta changes when buffing the power of mages, increasing the amount of opponent termination money, increasing the amount of money from minions, reducing the power of the jungler through changing experience. forest monster. 2018 is also a year marking a strong shift in the bot lane when the pure support ADC pairs gradually lose their footing, but the upper wing is the focus of the match with gladiator champions, split pushers, etc.
2019: The first international League of Legends tournament was held in Vietnam, PVB top 6 MSI
2019 marks another milestone when Vietnam was selected as one of the venues for MSI 2019, namely the melee stage. PVB still maintained their strength at VCS after returning from Worlds 2018 and did not let fans down, “Bow Troops” excellently entered the top 6 strongest teams, somewhat satisfying the fans. home grave. The good performance at MSI 2019 also helps our VCS region to have a 2nd slot to Worlds, 1 group stage and 1 warm-up round.
League of Legends also has the addition of elemental dragon maps, improving the ranking system to the time of the current 10th anniversary. Along with that are the skill changes of a few champions like Irelia, Kayle…, all of which help the game to be more balanced with the mid-jungle meta-pair move and roam to the wings.
2020: Pandemic and Team Flash 2 missed appointments in the international arena
2020 is a sad year for Vietnamese League of Legends and especially Team Flash, even though they won both Spring and Summer VCS, they were unable to attend international tournaments because of the pandemic. Most unfortunate is a team with many excellent and potential players such as Ego, Kati and Slayder, then despite achieving success, cannot reach the highest level of talented players.
2021: Tournament postponed and penalties
In 2021, the epidemic continued to raged and forced the organizers of VCS to postpone the summer season because they could not move in Ho Chi Minh City. Of course, last year, we couldn’t attend any international tournaments for the same reason.
However, the highlight of the past year must have been the endless punishments and dramas revolving around the new SBTC Esports team founded by teacher Baroibeo. From Dia1 being banned for 1 year, Zeros being banned by Global to Sena’s indebted Drama, Venus’s love… All have created one of the unforgettable seasons for Vietnamese League of Legends.
The biggest change of League of Legends is definitely the change of the Legendary and Legendary equipment system. Junglers now also don’t need to build jungle items, but will also build items like regular laners.
2022: Strong comeback in the international arena, the most exciting VCS season
The year 2022 marks a strong return of the VCS region in the international arena as Saigon Buffalo continues to maintain the region’s performance with the top 6 position at MSI 2022. Even SGB can do more if We did better in important games but our performance and doubles against RNG, G2 and even T1 proved that we are still in the top region of the world. At the 31st Sea Games, GAM also easily won the gold medal for the Vietnamese sports team after destroying all the teams in Southeast Asia.
Going into Summer, we have the most exciting VCS season in the history of Vietnamese League of Legends when the teams show off their gameplay and a completely different face. The expertise is pushed to the peak with macro situations like the LCK, the competition is extremely fierce on both the charts and the media front. There is no one team that really excels, all of which make up the appeal of VCS Summer 2022 with many surprises.

Along with that, Riot Games also carried out to bring the meta back to 2015, 2016 when increasing the resistances for all champions in League of Legends to bring the tanks and hyper-carry marksmen back after MSI 2022 ends. .
Those are all notable milestones and changes in the 10-year development journey of Vietnamese League of Legends. Hopefully the game will continue to grow stronger in the future.
