The story so far focuses on Riko, whose mother, Lyza, is an Abyss Cave Raider who has achieved the highest rank, White Whistle. However, she was not seen for ten years and Riko herself was taken up from the Abyss as a child to the upper town, where she was placed in an orphanage. Riko dreams of going into the Abyss and one day, while exploring the upper regions, comes across a cyborg boy named Reg, who cannot remember his past but seems to have come from deep within the Abyss. Soon after, a message from Lyza arrives at the top – which contains her White Whistle, a drawing of Reg, and a note saying she’s waiting at the bottom of the Abyss. Riko is determined to join her mother, and Reg may be the only one who can keep her alive on the journey. The two set off, completely unprepared for what was to come.
The Abyss has six known classes, each more dangerous than the last. While the entire Abyss is filled with danger, things don’t really turn deadly until the duo make their way to the fourth layer, where a creature’s attack burns Riko with deadly poison. Riko tells Reg to cut off her arm, but he only manages to break it before attempting to pull Riko upwards to safety, but there is another danger far away in the Abyss – when someone That tries to go back, they start dying. Blood begins to gush from Rika’s stoma and she stops breathing, that’s when Nanachi, a rabbit-like humanoid creature, appears.
Despite her skills in surviving in the Abyss, Nanachi’s story is a tragic one, and one that she just can’t let go of. She and her shaggy, mute companion, Mitty, were once children sent down to the Abyss and then quickly brought back as part of a series of experiments conducted by the White Whistle Bondrewd. It was the rapid ascent through the Abyss that transformed Nanachi and Mitty, and Mitty was subsequently subjected to cruel experiments that left her deformed and in constant pain until Nanachi saved her and fled into the Abyss. . As Riko recovers, Nanachi decides to join their team, but only after Reg is able to kill Mitty and put an end to her pain.
The events of the film, Made in Abyss: Dawn of the Deep Soul, are about the trio’s attempt to outmaneuver Bondrewd for access to the sixth and final known floor of the Abyss. To their surprise, Bondrewd welcomes them into his base, along with his daughter Prushka, with whom Riko begins to bond immediately. However, the real purpose of the welcome is to test Reg, as he is the product of the lowest levels of the Abyss, and he is kidnapped and mutilated while Nanachi must confront the history of the Abyss. herself with Bondrewd and that truth, in her fear. him, she helped him develop a way of using humans as a source of energy – stored in a handy little box – to enhance his powers.
When Prushka learned what happened to Reg, she helped the three escape, but because Riko didn’t have a White Whistle of her own, they were unable to enter the sixth class. This ends in the final confrontation with Bondrewd, where he is defeated but Riko discovers that Prushka has been torn apart for Bondrewd to use as fuel in the fight. Prushka managed to spit out a piece of her bone, which is what gives Riko the White Whistle and allows her, Reg, and Nanachi to continue down to sixth grade.
Made in Abyss: The Golden City of the Scorching Sun will feature some brand new characters alongside the original trilogy and perhaps shed some light on the mysteries, curses, and powers of the Abyss. Lyza’s whereabouts, Reg’s origins, and the reasons behind the illness affecting those in the city above are all burning questions going forward, as well as what sixth grade has in store for the Cave Raiders’ team .
