Kodoani.com – Comic artist Machiko Satonaka was honored with this year’s Person of Culture title, along with 19 others, in an event last week. Ms. Satonaka attracted attention when she showed special interest in creating a comic series using artificial intelligence (AI).
Satonaka began his career in 1964 with his first manga, “Pia no Shouzou.” Since then, she has created many other works with strong female characters, including “Lady Ann,” “Karyūdo no Seiza,” “Ashita Kagayaku,” “Tenjou no Niji,” “Yumeiro Kajitsu,” and “Aries no Otome-tachi.”
She has held a professor position at Osaka University of the Arts, is a director of the Japan Comic Artists Association, a director of the Manga Japan organization, and president of the Digital Manga Association, and is responsible for holds many other important roles in the field of comics and culture.
Machiko Satonaka has received many awards for his contribution to the field of comics and culture, including the Kodansha Comic Book Award and the Cultural Activity and Life Works award from the Japanese Ministry of Culture and Science.
