Kodoani.com – The Official Website of the Musical “Magic“-Dungeon Kumikyoku, the first stage musical based on Shinobu Ohtaka’s Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic manga, announced on Tuesday that the film will feature a second stage musical that will be performed in Shinagawa. Prince Hotel Stellar Ball in Tokyo on June 9-18 and Morinomiya Piloti Hall in Osaka on June 24-25. The website has announced the trailer, visuals, voiceover and returning staff.
The musical will feature a returning cast, including Yugo Miyajima (ORβIT) as Aladdin, Hiroki Ino as Alibaba, Daisuke Hirose as Cassim, Akito Teshima (SOLIDEMO) as Judar, and Nana Okada ( AKB48) as Morgiana. The new cast includes Yusuke Hirose as Sinbad, Shogo Yamazaki as Jafar, Masato Yoshihara as Masrur, Mayu Tanaka as Kо̄gyoku Ren, Shinnosuke Machida as Ahbmad Saluja and Naruhito Mirai as Sahbmad Saluja. Toshiyuki Morikawa will voice the role of Ūgo-kun.
The staff from the first musical will return for the second. Kо̄taroо̄ Yoshitani will direct the musical. Sayaka Asai is writing the script. Shuhei Kamimura composed the music. MAMORU will be in charge of the choreography.
The first musical was performed at Tennozu Galaxy Theater in Tokyo and Morinomiya Piloti Hall in Osaka last June.
An anime adaptation of the manga premiered in Japan in October 2012. Magi: The Kingdom of Magic, the second anime adaptation, premiered in October 2013.
Alibaba travels across a magical land in search of riches, meeting young Aladdin along the way. Together, they explore a mysterious Dungeon that is said to hold huge treasures, until a Djinn appears and reveals the truth about Aladdin’s powers. Now, the biggest gem to discover is their fate!
Director Koji Masunari (Read or Die, Welcome to THE SPACE SHOW) is directing the anime adaptation at A-1 Pictures. Toshifumi Akai (Kokoro Connect, Sound of the Sky) served as the character designer and animation director, and Hiroyuki Yoshino (Accel World, Guilty Crown, My-HiME) is in charge of the script. Shiro Sagisu (Bleach, Evangelion, Berserk movies) is composing the music. Magi is a 90th anniversary project from Shogakukan.
The cast includes Kaori Ishihara as Aladdin, Yuuki Kaji as Alibaba, Haruka Tomatsu as Morgiana, Daisuke Ono as Sinbad, Ryohei Kimura as Judal and Toshiyuki Morikawa as Ūgo-kun.
Ohtaka’s original manga looks back at stories from the classic Thousand and One Nights (also known as Arabian Nights). Ohtaka launched the manga in 2009 after finishing his Sumomomo Momomo manga. The series ended in October 2017 and Shogakukan published the 37th and final volume in November 2017. The manga won the Men’s Manga category of the 2014 Shogakukan Manga Awards.
