It seems that filmmakers are very interested in Iwaaki Hitoshi’s Parasyte manga, according to a recent announcement that the series will be acquired by Netflix and adapted into a movie.
Parasyte is a series of seinen manga in the genre of horror, science fiction, written and illustrated by Iwaaki Hitoshi. Published by Kodansha through Morning Open Zoukan (from 1988 to 1989) and Monthly Afternoon magazine (from 1990 to 1995). The manga has been published by Tu Publishing House in Vietnam.
The manga has inspired two live-action films in Japan, which premiered in 2014 and 2015. A television anime adaptation, produced by studio Madhouse titled Kiseijū Sei no Kakuritsu, has aired since. October 8, 2014 to March 25, 2015.
The previous two live-action films were directed by Yamazaki Takashi, and written by Kosawa Ryuta. The first season, titled Kiseiju, with a duration of 109 minutes, premiered on October 30, 2014 at the Tokyo International Film Festival. A second season titled Kiseiju Kanketsu-hen, with a duration of 117 minutes, premiered on April 25, 2015.
The manga has been adapted twice into Live-Action in Japan and this time Netflix and Korean director Yeon Sang Ho, are planning to adapt the Korean version of the Live-Action. Yeon Sang Ho previously had success with two works ‘Hellbound’ and ‘Jung_e’.
The story revolves around a 17-year-old boy named Izumi Shinichi, who lives with his mother and father in a peaceful area of Tokyo. One night, worm-like creatures, called animal parasites, appeared on Earth, taking over the human host’s brain by passing through their ears and nose. An animal parasite tried to crawl into Shi’ichi’s ear while he was sleeping but failed because Shinichi was wearing headphones, so the parasite accepted to enter his body by burrowing into Shin’s arm. ichi. In the Japanese version, the parasite occupies most of Shinichi’s right arm and is named Migi, the Japanese word for “right”; in the Tokyopop version, the images are flipped horizontally, and the animal parasite invades Shinichi’s left hand and is named Lefty.
Due to Shinichi’s ability to successfully prevent Migi from teleporting deeper into his brain, the two are currently maintained in a situation of being able to reason independently and have separate personalities. As the “couple” encounter other animal parasites, they take advantage of their own strange states and gradually form a strong bond, working together to survive. This brings the two to the brink of danger in their battles with other animal parasites, who frequently attack the “twin” while clearly realizing that Shinichi’s “human” brain is still intact. whole.
