As usual, when the Spring season ends, it is time for the best teams in each region to prepare for MSI 2024. The tournament usually lasts in mid-May and specifically in the 2024 season is from Days 1 to 19. The chosen location is Chengdu, China, where IEM Chengdu has just taken place, a tournament belonging to the IEM tournament system of the game CS:GO.
Regarding the participating teams, after the changes, there will now be 12 participating teams representing 8 regions in the world. The four major regions, LCK, LPL, LEC and LCS, will have 2 competition slots, 1 in the warm-up round and 1 in the official round – the Branch Round for the defending regional champions.
Before getting to the teams that will participate at MSI this year, let's take a look at the format of the tournament. First, in the Play-In Round, the teams will be drawn and divided into 2 groups A and B with 4 different tiers with CBLOL and LLA at tier 4, VCS and PCS at tier 3, LEC and LCS at tier 2 and tier 1. are LCK and LPL. Each group will have 4 tiers, draw a bo3 competition and will take the top 2 teams from each group to compete in the Branch Round with 4 waiting teams.
We will draw lots again to determine 4 pairs of matches and brackets for 8 teams competing in a bo5 format and both rounds will be Double-Elimination, i.e. Winner and Loser until a champion is found. . The MSI 2024 champion team will have a slot to Worlds if they continue to make it to the Summer Playoffs, and the runner-up team will bring 1 more slot to their region to Worlds 2024.
