Despite the near-contradictory rumors, a new report surfaced claiming that the Metal Gear Solid 3 remake will not be exclusive to PS5.
Information about the exclusive deal between Konami and Sony has been circulating online for several years now.
Despite some recent mixed rumors in the industry, a new report surfaced claiming that the Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater remake won’t be exclusive to PlayStation. This statement comes shortly after an industry insider suggested a future Metal Gear Solid series revival. The latest such claim surfaced in early May, suggesting that the rumored Metal Gear Solid 3 remake is not only real, but a PlayStation exclusive.
A new report surfaced from Insider Gaming alleges that’s not the case, citing unnamed sources who believe the Metal Gear Solid 3 remake will also be released on both PC and Xbox Series X/S. The PC version of the game is said to be for Steam, according to the same report. While the jury is clearly still uncertain about the veracity of these claims, the store behind them has a pretty decent track record with scoops, most recently correctly predicting the release date. of Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon.
Taking this newly emerged report at face value still doesn’t reduce the possibility that the Metal Gear Solid 3 remake could be a PlayStation exclusive over time. Even if that doesn’t happen and the game ends up having a cross-platform release on the same day, most industry insiders who have recently been involved in the matter seem to agree that the Metal remake Gear Solid 3 will be announced in the PlayStation Showcase. Sony’s upcoming event is scheduled for May 24.
According to previous reports, the MGS3 remake is targeting a 2024 release.
In addition to the rumored MGS3 remake, a few recent reports also suggest that Konami is likely to re-release at least one other Metal Gear Solid game in the near future. The original PS1 is the best candidate for a remake, at least from a technical feasibility point of view. A significant portion of fans still want to see Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots break free from the PS3 exclusivity, but that could be a tough question right now.
All of that could change if the rumors about Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater come true and the game ends up being a commercial success. Not least because such a series of events might eventually convince Konami to commit to providing resources to remake MGS4 for modern platforms.
