Sumo Digital seems to be actually producing a brand new part of the Crackdown series based on some new information from the company.
Despite going through a very long period of development, Crackdown 3 ultimately failed to deliver on most of its launch promises ahead of its 2019 release. This open world had to switch developers midway through production, as well as disappointing fans with what the game could deliver.
However, Sumo Digital may be working on a potential sequel to the series based on rumors that surfaced not too long ago and now those rumors have been confirmed even more. More specifically, the company just posted a new job posting for the position of Associate Art Director and some of the information in the post may indicate that Crackdown 4 is actually in the works.
While rumors that Crackdown 4 is in development are nothing new, Sumo Digital’s new Art Director position specifically mentions two of the top AAA franchises the studio has worked on before. are LittleBigPlanet and Crackdown. The job post also makes it clear that the contractee will be primarily working on developing the universe of an existing AAA IP, which underlines that the company is working on either of the aforementioned games.
Crackdown 3 was announced too early in its production, and Sumo Digital ended up releasing a game that simply couldn’t live up to the promises they made during the product’s promotion. For those reasons, the developer will probably want to revive the series with a completely new game, and it is very unlikely that they will develop LittleBigPlanet because that IP is owned by PlayStation.
In fact, Sumo Digital is quite capable of delivering a Crackdown game that the series’ fan base has been hoping to see since Crackdown 3 promised the impossible at the time. Modern technology is capable of doing the gameplay they promised before, and Sumo Digital may well be trying to leverage the ability of the current generation of Xbox consoles to do just that.
If it is indeed Sumo Digital that is developing a project under Crackdown, then it is also possible that the company is working on a remake of the original Crackdown instead of producing a new installment in the series. The title Crackdown is included in the list of the best Xbox exclusive games that have never been on PC so a remake of it could be a good way to bring it to PC and attract the interest of a new community of gamers. to Crackdown.
