Kodoani.com – Detective Conan: The Bride of Halloween (Meitantei Conan: Halloween no Hanayome), the 25th animated film in the famous Detective Conan anime series, continued to hold the No. 1 spot in its fourth week of release. The film sold 279,000 tickets over the weekend, and grossed 396,906,750 yen (about US$3.05 million) Friday through Sunday. The film sold a total of 5 million tickets for 6,968,151,200 yen (about 53.57 million US dollars).
The film opened in Japan on April 15 and sold 1,321,944 tickets for 1,907,467,150 yen (about $15.06 million) in its first three days. The film earned 1% more in its first three days than the previous record-holder (in terms of gross earnings) in the series, Detective Conan: Fist of Blue Sapphire, in its first three days.
Susumu Mitsunaka is directing the film at TMS Entertainment. Takahiro Ōkura (Detective Conan: Fist of Blue Sapphire, Detective Conan: The Crimson Love Letter) wrote the script. Gosho Aoyama is credited for the original work. Yūgo Kanno (JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders, Psycho-Pass) composed the music for the film. The film is set in Shibuya on Halloween. At the Shibuya Hikarie building, a certain wedding ceremony was taking place. There, Miwako Sato was wearing a wedding dress. Suddenly, an intruder bursts in, and Wataru Takagi is injured while protecting Miwako. At the same time, the serial bomber criminal in the incident three years ago that killed Jinpei Matsuda (whom Miwako is in love with) escapes. Rei Furuya, who was once Jinpei’s classmate at the police academy, searches for the culprit, but a mysterious costumed figure appears and attaches a bomb to the guy’s neck. Conan hears about the incident that happened three years ago from Rei, and tries to disarm the bomb.
