The live-action sequel to the Kaguya-sama wa Kokurasetai – Tensai-tachi no Renai Zunōsen film finale ranked at #1 in its opening weekend. The film sold 195,000 tickets and grossed 252 million yen (about US$2.29 million) in its first three days (including Friday). The series sold 124,500 tickets and earned 164 million yen (about 1.49 million US dollars) on Saturday and Sunday.
The first film sold 1.8 million tickets and grossed 2.2 billion yen (about 20.04 million US dollars) throughout 2019.
The sequel to the first live-action film adaptation of Aka Akasaka’s manga, Kaguya-sama: Love is War (Kaguya-sama wa Kokurasetai – Tensai-tachi no Renai Zunōsen) premiered on the 20th.
The film depicts the events of the “Sports and Cultural Festivals” section of the original manga, focusing on Yu Ishigami and Tsubame Koyasu. The story is also depicted in the second season of the anime.
The manga inspired a television anime that premiered in January 2019 and aired for 12 episodes. Aniplex of America streamed the series on Hulu, Crunchyroll, and FunimationNow. The company also released the anime on Blu-ray in February 2020.
Kaguya sama wa Kokurasetai – Tensai-tachi no Renai Zunōsen, the second season of the television anime, premiered in April 2020. Funimation streamed the anime as it aired in Japan. Funimation was also voiced for both seasons of the anime.
The anime will have a third season. An original anime video (OVA) project was released on May 19.
