In an effort to steer Deku on the right path, Bakugo reminds him of his first goal in My Hero Academia, Chapter #319.
One man’s crusade against Deku’s villains seems to have appeared in the latest installment of the manga My Hero Academia. Class 1-A had finally caught up with him and quite a few of them wanted to show Deku everyone as his right hand man. The loudest of them all, of course, was Bakugo, who asked Deku a surprisingly profound question.
Since Deku left UA, his friends and classmates have been completely in the dark about his whereabouts. The only information they had to go on was from the letters he wrote detailing why he couldn’t stay and the secret of One For All.
Deku’s friends could have respected his wishes and left him alone if it weren’t for Bakugo and Uraraka’s determination in My Hero Academia Chapter 319. Bakugo had predicted the extremes his opponents would go to in order to save lives. Bakugo knows Deku’s sacrifices all too well, however Bakugo still wants to help Deku.
So Bakugo, along with the rest of 1-A, conspired with Headmaster Nezu to lure Endeavour to UA. When he did, they cornered and questioned Pro Hero about Deku’s whereabouts, and when Endeavour revealed that he’s with All Might, Bakugo calls this worst case scenario: All Might can never be the one to rein in Deku’s stupidity because that’s exactly the brand of heroism Deku was trying to describe. burned long ago.
Class 1-A eventually tracked down Deku using Endeavor’s communication device and arrived just in time to save him from the villain, the Dictator. But even seeing how helpful his classmates were, Deku refused to stay with them. After showing them this determination, Bakugo asked a very interesting question: “Are you smiling now?”
Ever since he was a child, whenever he was asked what kind of hero he wanted to be, Deku’s answer was always “someone who always smiles and saves people no matter what danger they are in, like All Might”. You’ll learn in UA’s Hero Course that smiling is not only a strategy to reassure villains but also a way to reassure innocent civilians that everything will be okay.
Bakugo’s question in Chapter #319 is important because it shows how far Deku’s current path has taken him from the hero he once hoped to be. Deku’s unending campaign drains both physically and mentally in the My Hero Academi manga, and looks reflect the worst. His body was covered with filth and scars, giving him an extremely intimidating appearance with even the tiniest smile. Anyone who meets him will immediately mistake him for a villain, and for good reason.
However, even in the face of this convincing argument, Deku did not back down. In fact, he shows a willingness to use force to escape from his friends if need be. Likewise, it doesn’t upset them. They were prepared to fight the hero himself.
Their battle is sure to be an interesting one in the next chapter of My Hero Academia. Class 1-A will be up against an enemy capable of recreating All Might’s full power but since Deku is currently far from his optimal condition, they just might stand a chance.
