My Hero Academia Chapter #321 may have just revealed a potentially controversial Class 1-A member to be LGBTQ.
My Hero Academia may have just taken a bold step forward with LGBTQ representation in the manga’s latest chapter. Minoru Mineta, the perverted resident of Class 1-A, confessed what can only be understood as romantic feelings for Deku in Chapter #321. With Mineta’s shady past harassing her female classmates, This revelation is shocking, but is the guy really bisexual?
Mineta’s confession happened right in the middle of Class 1-A’s battle to bring Deku back to UA. Even after similarly heartfelt revelations from a few of his classmates, Deku was adamant in his decision to face All For One alone. In Chapter #321, with help from Tsuyu, Mineta attaches herself to Deku’s back with a chain of his bouncing balls. And while following her airborne classmate, Mineta tries to talk to Deku.
Deku’s explanation for abandoning his classmates in the My Hero Academia manga is that the current war is just between One For All and All For One. Upon hearing this, Mineta tries to remind him that Deko is more than his talented Quirk. He reveals to Deku that he never thought One For All made Deku special. Rather, he first “falls in love” with Deku during the USJ villain’s attack.
During his first encounter with the villains, Deku overcame his fear to bravely fight back, setting an example for Mineta to do the same back then. That was the beginning of Mineta’s admiration for Deku and the gau’s friendship. Mineta’s words clearly affect Deku in the latest chapter, but his faith remains unshaken. Instead, Deku pushed his classmate away from Blackwhip.
Mineta’s confession sent My Hero Academia fans into a frenzy online. This character had previously shown only an interest in women so his sudden declaration to Deku was a surprise. Quite a few fans are celebrating the introduction of an LGBTQ member of Class 1-A, while others lament the fact that it must be Mineta. However, no matter which faction you are on, aggression or discontent can be a bit premature.
While Mineta’s words certainly allude to a romantic undertone, the setting is anything but possible. All of the other members of Class 1-A shared stories of how Deku influenced his own journey to becoming a hero. Mineta’s speech also fits that theme. A love confession also doesn’t seem to fit the group’s circumstances, especially from Mineta, to everyone, and is based on the guy’s history. Only more details from future chapters of My Hero Academia can fully confirm whether Mineta is mainstream bisexual or his “confession” is just his usual pompous self. mine. However, Mineta’s gender being confirmed would be a pretty interesting development for his character.
