Revealing the traitor UA, My Hero Academia continues to prove that it is not yet complete with surprises. While Class 1-A debates Aoyama Yuga’s fate with the police department and UA staff, Aizawa Shota, the homeroom teacher and fan-favorite character of Class 1-A has reappeared, And he’s hiding a pretty big secret.
The previous chapter ended with Midoriya Izuku extending his hand to forgive Aoyama. While it seems unlikely that finding out Yuga is a traitor to UA won’t cause any rift between Aoyama and Class 1-A, he won’t be able to rejoin them immediately. Detective Tsukauchi notes that he still cannot be completely trusted. He had teamed up with All For One anyway, and they still couldn’t completely rule out the possibility that he was trapped in the same way as Lady Nagant.
As the Aoyama family’s interrogation continued, they discovered that their communications with All For One were always initiated by him: he only approached them if there was information about UA that interested him. Trying to fool him with misinformation would be difficult but, as Kaminari Denki noted, not impossible. Yaoyorozu Momo also points out that the only person capable of cheating on All For One at this point might be Aoyama, and he is once again overwhelmed by his friends’ unwavering trust in him.
It was at this point that Aizawa finally stepped in. Aizawa was not physically present as he was likely still recovering from injuries received during the Occult War of Liberation, but he was caught up in it all while listening via video call. Aizawa reveals that he has no intention of expelling Aoyama from UA and shares his feelings for his students. However, like the detective, he admits that it would be unwise to just trust the Aoyama family completely and asks them to cover their ears when he reveals his plans.
Although Aizawa’s plan has yet to be revealed to the reader, the characters’ expressions after hearing it are all confident in its ability. It doesn’t seem like it guarantees success but, according to Headmaster Nezu and Detective Tsukauchi, it’s viable enough to try. They wasted no time in starting to prepare for it, which involved checking “each and every place” that might refer to the UA facility. First-year students return to their normal training regimen.
Aizawa isn’t the only character to make a surprise appearance. As part of Midoriya and Iida Tenya’s preparations, they go to UA support to repair and upgrade their hero costumes. There, they run into Hatsume Mei, a booster genius and a former teammate from the Sports Festival. Her reappearance reveals even more epic additions to Midoriya’s latest outfit. Given how much more Deku’s current ability is, Hatsume will certainly be able to take advantage of his new ability and create useful tools for both him and Iida. If she can repair his Mid Gauntlet, Deku will once again be able to increase the One For All odds that he can comfortably use.
