Recent information reveals a release date for Criterion Games’ next Need For Speed title and showcases a unique art style.
A recent piece of news seems to confirm that EA’s Need for Speed: Unbound is coming this December. Reportedly being developed by British studio Criterion Games, this will be the studio’s first Need for Speed game since Need for Speed: Rivals in 2013. EA has had some trouble keeping Need for Speed: Unbound does not reveal information. EA briefly archived an image of Unbound before quickly removing it from the site. Meanwhile, Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson revealed the game’s launch date late last month.
The latest leak comes from Gematsu, who discovered the Need for Speed: Unbound product listing on the Japanese retail site Neowing. This page, presumably brought up early, lists the game’s release date as December 2, 2022, for the PlayStation 5. There is no mention of a release on Xbox Series X/S or PC, which makes this. seems to contradict previous leaks. However, it looks like Neowing is simply not selling other versions. There’s also no sign of Need for Speed: Unbound coming to the latest consoles.
In addition to confirming the game’s release date, the product listing also includes a few screenshots of the upcoming Need for Speed: Unbound. Unfortunately the four images are a bit low resolution but give some idea of what the new game will look like. Previous installments like Need for Speed: Heat of 2019 usually aim to be as realistic as possible. However, Need for Speed: Unbound takes a different approach, combining realistic cars and environments with manga or anime-inspired characters and visual effects.
Twitter’s responses to the leaked images were completely contradictory. Some fans seem pleased with the new elements of the upcoming Need for Speed game. Others were significantly less enthusiastic, with some fans claiming it made the game look too much like Fortnite. Some commenters even expressed disgust with this version.
Regardless of fan opinions on Need for Speed: Unbound’s graphic design, it’s good to at least have a confirmed release date. In the meantime, fans have the official reveal to look forward to. The upcoming Need of Speed: Unbound trailer is scheduled to launch on October 6 on the official Need for Speed YouTube account. Hopefully, it will give fans a better look at the upcoming races.
