Popular webtoon Lookism author Park Tae-Joon has officially been adapted into an anime by studio MIR. The studio previously animated DOTA: Dragon’s Blood and The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf. Anime Lookism will premiere on Netflix on November 4.
Attached to the September 25 trailer is also a teaser image for the announcement of the anime adaptation with visuals featuring important characters.
WEBTOON publishes the Lookism series in English and currently has a total of 406 chapters published, with the latest chapter being released on September 25. The story revolves around a high school student who can switch between two bodies: an ugly fat one and a fit, handsome side. The website describes the story:
“Daniel is an unattractive loner, waking up in a different body. Now that he’s taller, handsome, and cooler than ever in his new form, Daniel aims to achieve everything he couldn’t before. What will he do to keep his beautiful new body…and its secrets?”
It is known that the design of the character Daniel in the original is inspired by model Park Hyung-Seok. Jay Hong’s design was inspired by model Hong Jae-Yeol. DG’s design was inspired by G-Dragon and Oliver Jang’s design was inspired by Jang Dong-Woo. While the character Aru was adapted from singer IU and Vasco/Euntae Lee was inspired by a rapper whose stage name was formerly Vasco. The manhwa was created by Park Tae-Joon, a model himself.
