After the postponement of the One Piece live-action release date, Netflix continued to make fans bored with this project with the rather creepy shape of the Going Merry ship.
In the past time, if meFans have followed Game8Z, everyone must have heard of the news. One Piece live-action will postpone the release date until the author Oda is satisfied with all the details in the project. That disappointment was further outweighed by disappointment when the official appearance of the Straw Hats’ first ship, the Going Merry, was revealed. What does that ship look like? Check it out with Game8Z.
Right after the new visual key of One Piece about Going Merry was released by Netflix, fans have repeatedly pointed out flaws in the design of Going Merry’s live-action version.
First, in an effort to make Going Merry’s design look more realistic, Netflix’s show’s creators made some not-so-positive changes. Instead of the simple white wood that covers the ship from the front to the stern like in the anime, the live-action version has ridged planks on it.
Another thing that really stands out in the Going Merry’s new design is the goat’s head on the front of the train. In the anime, the smiling goat is very cute. However, the live-action version wants to approach that goat head in a different direction. Instead of letting him smile, the live-action made the goat open its mouth wide. Even the live-action goat head doesn’t look like it’s smiling.
However, there are some fans still trying to protect the live-action. According to them, the new design is much better because it truly reflects a real pirate ship. But there are completely opposite opinions. According to them, Netflix has previously stated that the One Piece live-action will be as good and as close to the original manga as possible. But now with the goat’s head screaming for help on Going Merry, fans are starting to worry that this will be the anime/manga’s next failed live-action project.
In addition, many fans also mentioned that Going Merry doesn’t have to look as realistic as real-life pirate designs. Although the design of the ship in the anime is quite silly, it highlights the free and cheerful spirit of Luffy and his teammates. One Twitter user even photoshopped the anime’s goat head into the live-action version. What’s surprising is that it looks more eye-catching than Netflix’s design. Let’s take a look at that image with Game8Z.
