While announcing the award-winning title Never Alone will launch a new version for the Nintendo Switch, publisher E-line Media has officially revealed to gamers that a sequel is in the works. Gamers will be able to see little Luna and her fox in their next adventure in a little while.
First released in 2014, Never Alone is a unique game that immerses players in Iñupiat culture, a beautiful and respectful journey into the lives and folklore of the native to the north coast of Alaska. What’s more, the game has been critically acclaimed and was nominated for the 2015 Game Developers Choice Award in the category of Best Debut.
Shown alongside the trailer, a new version of the title called The Arctic Collection will arrive on Nintendo Switch on February 24, which includes the base game and the story-expanding Foxtales DLC. In this game, gamers will guide a young girl named Luna and her companion, a little fox, on a mission to find the source of the never-ending blizzard.
The final moments of the new trailer have revealed that a sequel to Never Alone is in the works, however Upper One Games hasn’t given up any details beyond the re-appearance of the two main characters. E-Line Media President Alan Gershenfeld gave some more details, saying, “We are pleased to announce that production of a Never Alone sequel has begun, still building on that relationship. A holistic development relationship with our partners to share and celebrate Alaskan indigenous cultures and their stories with a global audience.”
Never Alone and its sequel have stood out from the crowd of platformer puzzle games thanks to their cultural uniqueness, adding an educational dimension that we rarely get to see. The highly acclaimed first game from 2014 was created through a deep partnership with the Alaska Native Community and in particular with the Cook Inlet Tribal Council, a non-profit organization that works with local communities. Indigenous peoples living in urban areas of Alaska, developer Upper One Games was the first game company owned by the natives of that United States. Furthermore, the game not only offers much of the cultural knowledge of the documentaries, but the plot itself is narrated in the Iñupiak language.
We don’t have much information about Never Alone 2 at the moment, but it will certainly be another interesting game. By bringing in the cultural theme with the same devotion, research and respect shown by Upper One Games, all Never Alone games are there to provide another unique experience for gamers.
