New feature of the 2023 Pre-Season: Just by pinging the enemy’s Eye position, you can easily earn gold.
A series of new items, new gameplay changes have been added since the 2023 Pre-Season. During this “sensitive” period, the game will have a lot of interesting changes, most recently the the fact that players can earn “free” Gold just by pinging and basic hitting the Eye.
Realizing that remembering the location and duration of the Eye is relatively “complicated”, Riot decided to add a little feature to make it easier for players to control vision. Specifically, if you ping at the exact location where you have sight of an enemy ward within the previous 10s or usually hit the eye but can’t break it, a timer will appear at that location to help you and your teammates know exactly how long the enemy Eye in that area remains. This can be considered an extremely useful feature, and at the same time greatly reduces the amount of information that players need to process.
But there is one thing that not many people notice. With just a ping (on all Eye types except Zombie Eye) or basic attack for the first time (with Purple Eye), you can earn yourself 5 gold without having to destroy that Eye unit. This is probably a pretty cool feature as it indirectly encourages players to ping wards as soon as possible, and helps you earn a little (though not too significant) return even if you don’t have the opportunity. In addition, you should also note that the 5 Gold you get from the above ping is completely extracted from the total cost of destroying 1 Eye (30 gold for Eye / 15 Gold for Lens). So it won’t be that the value of destroying an Eye will now be enhanced, just that you will be “early” 5 Gold through marking the location of the Eye only.
