Kodoani.com – Official website for the live-action manga adaptation My Broken Mariko of Waka Hirako began releasing a new trailer for the film on Wednesday. The trailer alternates scenes of Shiino’s present time with her and Mariko’s past.
Mei Nagano (top left pictured above) plays the main character Shiino. Yuki Tanada will direct the film after penning the script with Kōsuke Mukai.
Other members include:
Nao (top center in the image above) as Mariko Ikagawa, Shiino .’s best friend
Masataka Kubota (bottom left) as Makio, a young man Shiino meets on her journey
Toshinori Omi (bottom center) as Mariko’s father
Yō Yoshida (bottom right) as Kyōko Tamura, second wife of Mariko .’s father
The film will open in Japan on September 30, but had its first screening at Montreal’s 26th Fantasia International Film Festival on July 14. The film won Best Screenplay (The contest Cheval Noir) at the film festival.
Yen Press released the manga as a luxury hardcover book in November 2020. The company describes the manga:
Shiino is a mean office assistant, but when her friend Mariko suddenly dies, she is determined to get to the bottom of this mystery. Depicting the spiritual connection between girls, it is an outstanding story of sisterhood and romance.
Kadokawa published the first volume of the compiled josei manga in Japan in January 2020. The 24th Japan Media Arts Festival Awards presented the New Face award for the manga in 2021.
