Along with Sony revealing new PSVR2 specs and details at CES 2022, a new trailer for their first game has been released: Horizon Call of the Mountain.
In a shocking announcement at CES 2022, Sony has revealed the first real details regarding its PlayStation VR 2 setup. In the past, Sony has confirmed that this is a work-in-progress, but to what extent and for how long remains unclear. Now, it looks like the recent PSVR2 production rumors are correct and a flagship title dedicated to it has been announced: Horizon Call of the Mountain, set in the same universe as Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West.
The PSVR2 is described as a “true next-generation” experience with high fidelity visuals, realism features, and enhanced motion tracking, all with a simple one-wire setup. . Specifically, the PSVR2 boasts 4K HDR, 110-degree FOV field of view, 2000×2040 per eye display resolution on the OLED display, and a 90/120Hz frame rate. The new controllers, simply called Sense controllers and not to be confused with the standard PS5 DualSense controllers, feature headset-based tracking and in-game reflection without the need for an external camera. .
Other details include fine-tuned eye-tracking, along with other immersive features like 3D AudioTech and headphone feedback (meaning fans can feel the higher beats, cramp, stamping of a passive object, or the thrust of a vehicle). It all sounds incredibly promising, but hardware without the right software to match it is useless, even for PSVR2. Luckily, this is where Horizon Call of the Mountain comes in.
Horizon Call of the Mountain is currently in development for PSVR2.
Along with the PSVR2 details, a Horizon Call of the Mountain trailer has also been revealed. It is being developed by Guerilla Games and Firesprite (a recent acquisition by Sony), which tells a new story with a new protagonist. The trailer showcases several worlds, as well as one of Horizon’s fan favorite machines, Tallneck. Players will meet Aloy, familiar faces, and new characters in this all-new story set in the Horizon universe.
Not much else has been revealed, but with it just announced, here’s a fascinating teaser. Various details about PSVR2, like pricing and release date, are yet to be revealed and more Horizon Call of the Mountain news is likely to follow or along with that. It should be noted, however, that the developer has stated that fans will “soon” return to the wilderness in Horizon Call of the Mountain, and that the game’s new protagonist will also be revealed “soon.” .
