Warning: Spoilers for The Ice Guy and His Cool Female Colleague episode 3A light romance anime series that delivers a never-ending supply of engaging dry humor called Ice guy and his amazing coworker there’s an unexpected underlining plot that puts a twisted spin on an otherwise lovely story. Thanks to its ubiquitous blatant humor, there’s nothing to suggest that Ice Guy and his cool female co-stars would make any kind of twist to any of the jokes, let alone to a cute game.
The humor stems from Fuyutsuki-san and Himuro-kun’s emotionless personalities except for Himuro-kun’s internal reactions whenever Fuyutsuki does something adorable or shows any sign that she has can like him romantically. Even the reactions and observations from their workmate Saejima-kun were comically dry. This isn’t even mentioning Himuro-kun’s adorable icy powers, which accidentally manifest whenever his emotions get too strong.
Himuro experiences something worse than an embarrassing baby photo
In episode two, it is revealed that Himuro-kun can “melt” due to extreme heat. His version of the meltdown involves returning to an earlier time in his life. Fuyutsuki-san witnessed this phenomenon firsthand, and when she learned he was no longer in danger, she couldn’t help but adore him as a child. She found this melted state so adorable that she took pictures of him without his knowledge. In episode three, viewers discovered that Fuyutsuki-san had made this photo as his phone wallpaper and actively hid it from him one night when they both worked late at the office.
This is a disturbing, albeit extremely creative twist on the typical romantic comedy, in which the girl is often enamored with baby pictures of her crush. In most cases, the siblings or parents of the person in the photos are the vile perpetrators who shared them. The subversion of the Ice Guy and his cool female co-worker feels sketchy for more reasons than the photo being kept secret. This gesture would still be adorable if the girl who was raising her eyebrows at the photo had secretly kept the baby photo in her purse, for example. In this case, Himuro-kun’s younger self remains an accessible part of him and appears whenever he is in danger. Even so, Fuyutsuki-san still enjoyed it so much that she made sure she could always access the photo whenever the mood struck her. It feels more like enjoying something painful than being embarrassed.
Fuyutsuki should have focused on the snowman
A much cuter alternative to this would be if Fuyutsuki-san found the happy little snowmen emerging from Himuro-kun so cute that she actively made an effort to make sure he made more and more. Of course, to be completely innocent, Fuyutsuki-san would also need to do this for the simple reason of wanting to make him happy, but the gesture either way still feels like an appropriate effort when the characters Try to attract their love. smile just because they think it’s cute when they do.
However, even a light-hearted anime needs to have some tension, and that is directly related to one of those anime series. The icy guy and his cool co-workerits unique aspects rather than something that can be easily replicated in any other romantic comedy anime is an effective choice, even though it’s a bit out of place.
