At Worlds 2022, Gumayusi regained his form and confidence, he was T1’s standout player in the victory over RNG in the quarterfinals of Worlds 2022.
The quarterfinal match of Worlds 2022 is a confrontation that recreates the final of MSI 2022 between T1 vs RNG. However, yesterday’s rematch was not as exciting as expected as the reigning LCK runner-up showed a superiority against the 4th seed LPL. After 3 games, T1 easily destroyed RNG to enter the semi-finals.
Gumayusi was T1’s standout performer in their win over RNG in the quarterfinals of Worlds 2022. He didn’t lie down a single time in the first 2 games, his performance showing off his AD carry. T1 has regained form after a disappointing summer.
You guys once again faced RNG after the finals of MSI 2022. Did this affect your mood?
Gumayusi: It’s been a long time since the finals of MSI 2022, so I think both teams have made significant changes. RNG doesn’t really look like the opponent we’ve played against before, but I’m still happy to have paid off my debt at MSI.
You didn’t lie down once in the first 2 games. Looks like you tried to stay invulnerable in the quarterfinals?
Gumayusi: I was immortal in the first 2 games, and I thought I could do the same in game 3, but unfortunately I got killed twice. It was indeed a bit disappointing.
What do you think is the most important in the confrontation with GALA – Ming?
Gumayusi: We practiced and tested a lot of matches. No bot lane duo has as wide a champion pool as us, this was the key to our victory.
Game 2 was really a tough game for T1, but you guys came back spectacularly after winning the teamfight for the Elder Dragon Souls. Do you feel pressure to play the main role when holding Xayah?
Gumayusi: I was quite concerned when I saw GALA’s Kai’sa catching up with my farm. However, dealing damage to the RNG squad is not too much of an obstacle for Xayah, especially when I still have Renata’s support.
How would you rate your own performance?
Gumayusi: I think I didn’t play very well in game 1, but I performed better in the next 2 games. I would rate myself 80/100.
T1 will face JDG in the semi-finals. What do you think about this matchup?
Gumayusi: JDG once said that they don’t want to compete with us. I will definitely prove why they are afraid of us. With careful preparation, we will head to the final.
