The European League of Legends champion will return to the biggest tournament on the planet after a year of missing an appointment.
Riot Games confirms G2 is the first team to have tickets to Worlds 2022
G2 Esports has become the first team to qualify for the 2022 World Finals after a meaningful victory over Misfits Gaming this morning (August 14). Although there are still a series of matches in the group stage, G2 cannot drop to fourth place in LEC Summer 2022, plus having won the Spring Split, G2 automatically has a ticket to the US.
In the worst case scenario, G2 will still play the LEC’s fourth seed at the most prestigious League of Legends tournament on the planet to be held in October. That means that no matter what the outcome of the 2022 LEC Summer Playoffs, G2 will still start Worlds from the Play-In or Group Stage. After being absent from Worlds 2021 for the first time in the organization’s history, this is clearly great news for G2 fans. The last time they attended Worlds was in 2020 – when G2 fell to the king of DAMWON Gaming in China.
Going back to the Bo1 series with Misfits, G2 took a 2,000 gold lead in 10 minutes thanks to a 1-for-4 teamfight. Most of the damage in that teamfight came from the two solo laners on the G2 side, caPs and BrokenBlade, with two explosive champions, Sylas and Yone. Thanks to that terrible amount of damage, G2 opens the way to victory. The pair of caPs and BrokenBlade played the leading role with a total KDA of 11/0/13 helping G2 raise the unbeaten streak to four.
Despite having tickets to Worlds 2022, the season is still there with G2. The top 4 of the LEC are only one point behind each other, forcing all teams to work until the last minute to receive a wildcard in the play-off round. But as mentioned above, G2 couldn’t drop to fourth place and they never had to worry about starting the play-offs from the Losers Bracket. But surely G2 (11-6) will want to beat Excel (8-9) at 00:00 tomorrow (August 15) so that the main road wins the top spot.
According to the LEC format, the top team will have the right to choose the third or fourth place opponent on the table before entering the Winning Bracket. This will be a huge advantage for G2 if they keep their current form.
