After turning down the warm offers of several teams, including Damwon, the team that made his name, Nuguri announced that he would take a break. From the assertions from Nuguri that he was born to be a pro, we can see that his comeback this time around has not been easy. Nuguri had some sincere shares after announcing that he would return to the League of Legends arena.
“I was thinking about retiring.”
“Hi. I’m Damwon Kia Jang “Nuguri” HaGwon’s top laner. I’m a bit embarrassed to say hello after a long time.” While filming and interviewing for his comeback, Nuguri said, “I became a pro gamer again.” to open the interview.
As the top player that led Damwon to the 2020 World Championship, he moved to LPL FPX in 2021 and had a shocking result in the group stage of Worlds.
“The results of Worlds 2021 are very disappointing. Honestly, I thought about retiring when I was bottoming out. I thought it was difficult to make sense of a comeback because my self-esteem was so low that I decided to take a break. I was very disappointed in everything. I think that with my own expression, people’s judgment of my worth is just a reward for the past. If you’re a pro gamer, you have to show it off in the name of a true pro, I had a lot of skepticism about that.”

“Like I said, at first I thought about retiring really seriously and I’m going to do it. I talked so much with my family, I felt I had to stop. I think I should live a more meaningful life but I can’t find a job that works for me. Even though it was resting, I was under a lot of stress. But one day I started playing again but my score went up. I’m excited to be back. I stayed up all night without feeling tired and I was very happy.”
After returning to Damwon KIA, Nuguri also talked about getting along with her colleagues without hesitation. “I signed on May 1, but I joined the team early. Not only new players, but old players like director Yang DaeIn, coach Lee JaeMin, player Canyon, player ShowMaker also practiced and attended the Workshop with me, so I seemed to have adapted to the team without What great difficulty? We had a good time riding the yacht and stroller together at the workshop. I feel like I get along with my teammates a lot. I feel very grateful and I want to achieve our team goals together.”
“The most important thing is to do well, there is still a long way to go.”
Damwon KIA has been working hard to get Jang “Nuguri” HaGwon’s signature in the past time. The results of the spring season were disastrous as Nuguri announced he would be taking a break. Although Canyon’s performance in the tournament was extremely impressive, Damwon KIA had to receive unfortunate defeats and received a third place in the rankings.
Right after spring ended Damwon KIA succeeded in changing Nuguri’s mind once again and has shown his expectation with the best treatment at the top of the LCK. Finally, with the return of Nuguri, Damwon KIA has the championship squad 2020.
Fans’ expectations for Nuguri’s return are also very special. “As soon as Nuguri returned to the top lane, which was considered the weakest of the team, victories could already be seen.” Fans are extremely looking forward to explosive performances from Damwon KIA.
But Nuguri cautioned that he needed to improve his individual skills more than just a combination of team members.
“When I first started as a pro gamer, I was the youngest on the team. Now I’m the eldest. That is really the best thing. I still feel like I’m the youngest. I think about it, but I think there’s still a long way to go and when I return to the team, I have to upgrade my roster to be more suitable than in the spring. Above all, I think I need to improve my skills. Right now, I think that there are so many shortcomings that it is impossible to describe them all. I think it still has a long way to go. We have to fix those shortcomings. “
Nuguri mode continues, “The goal is to be the best player in the world”
Nuguri started his career as a professional gamer in his late teens. Nuguri also said he wants to improve his internal and external shortcomings during the break. His plan was to exercise every day, but in reality it was a long training session. Nuguri said he will start his day at noon and “wrestle” with LOL until 4-5 am the next day.
“Actually, I want to improve myself internally and externally. In my free time outside of practice, I want to live a life of exercising and doing hobbies like piano. But after going back to training I became a racehorse in no time, except for bedtime and mealtime. This year I started late, so it was a bit rushed.
When asked about her goal, Nuguri said without hesitation, “I will become the best”.
“I think T1, the team that won the Spring Split, and GenG, the second place team, are really strong. However, my team and I want to come out on top. No matter which Top laner I meet, I never lose and I have to improve my skills in my role so that I can overcome other teams and achieve my goal of winning the championship.”
“I feel very sorry for the Chinese fans. I was terrible during my days at Fun Plus. It’s a team that can play well enough. You guys expected a lot and gave a lot of love, but I didn’t show much so I feel very regretful. As a player at Damwon KIA what I want when the fans watch the match that I play is is They’ll think, “That’s interesting.” I want the fans to get energy from watching me play. If you look at the relationship between players and fans, they say we bring joy to the fans, but I think that’s the position the players get. I think eSports can grow like this thanks to the fans. And I want to show a better performance.”
