In a recent official announcement, the Yeltsin Center gallery said the perpetrator (unnamed) was an employee of a private security company, nearly 60 years old this year. And the reason why he decided to “show off his painting talent” was because the job was too boring and boring, even though it was only the first day he worked for this gallery.
According to Art Newspaper, the incident was discovered by two visitors on December 7, 2021, when they noticed an anomaly on the masterpiece that was created by Anna Leporskaya in the 1930s. This “Three Figures” painting was borrowed by the Yeltsin Center from the State Tretyakov gallery in Moscow.
Immediately after the incident broke out, this security guard was immediately fired. The police also investigated the act of vandalism and decided to impose a fine of 395 pounds (more than 12 million dong), along with 1 year of re-education labor.
The painting “Three Figures” was then sent back to Moscow for an art restorer to examine and find a way to restore it to its original state. According to the State Tretyakov gallery, these ballpoint pen strokes can be removed without causing lasting damage to the work. The cost of restoration is about £ 2470 (VND 75.8 million), but it is not clear if the painting will be revalued after restoration.
