Valorant “one champ” players will have a bit of a hard time if this system of selecting agents in this order is introduced.
Instalock or pick-lock is a concept that just picks a champion and locks that champion very quickly, often seen in normal matches or low rank matches. Accordingly, after enough players for both teams, will proceed to the step of choosing a champion. In this champion selection step, usually at high ranks, players will ask each other which champion to play and they will choose the remaining champions that are suitable for the squad. But in regular matches or low rank matches, they will instalock champions they forehand (or champions they like). From here, the concept of instalock (pick-lock) was born.
In Valorant, instalock occurs very often. Whether at high or low rank, instalock still appears. A few hours ago during a live broadcast shared about the direction and new updates that will appear in Valorant. Designer Jon Walker has shared that in the future, Valorant will update a feature that selects agents in order called “cascading agent pick”, which roughly translates to “pick agents in order.”
Accordingly, at the beginning of the agent selection step, the “cascading agent pick” system will randomly select any 1 out of 5 players to choose the first agent. The chosen one will have 15 to 20 seconds to decide what agent to play. If the chosen player has not yet selected an agent, the choice of champion will be transferred to the second player and so on gradually until all players are exhausted.
Although it is not known whether this system will be really effective or not, but this is a step in the right direction from the developers of Riot Games. Having the system select in such an order will limit the instalock. In addition, this system will force players to play more than 1 agent, making Valorant more tactically diverse in a match.
“Cascading agent pick” will be released in Episode 4, but the exact date of this system’s release is unknown at this time. Let’s look forward to the change from Valorant’s side.
