The Straw Hats scramble to locate their captain and we learn more about an ally’s past.
In the opening of the previosu chapter, Sanji and Zoro stand together on the battlefield, ready to confront the King and Queen. The remaining Animal Kingdom pirates target the Straw Hats, but are stopped by Kawamatsu. There is an understanding that the four boxers will only fight each other, without interruption. The Queen taunts Sanji, then names the race of people the King might belong to: the Moon People. Kawamatsu and Hyogoro then started talking about how Zoro resembles Shimotsuki Ushimaru, the descendant of the swordsman Shimotsuki Ryuma. They also note that Ryuma is a one-eyed samurai, that it must have been fate that brought Zoro to Wano.
When the full moon rises, both Inuarashi and Nekomamushi change into their Sulong forms during their respective battles, being resurrected to destroy the Animal Kingdom Pirates once and for all. During the fighting, at Tokage Harbor, Luffy stood in front of a fully grown Momonosuke Dragon. The little lord’s plan for Shinobu to change him into an adult succeeded, and he not only matured, but also had his Devil Fruit powers. He is now 28 years old, the age he would be if he hadn’t traveled through time. Luffy doesn’t question this development, and instead accepts it. Together, Luffy and Momonosuke will return to the battlefield, ready to face Kaido once more.
We reach the 2nd floor, where Usopp is seeing a group of Animal Kingdom Pirates have fallen. They questioned whether they were falling victim to the Supreme King’s Haki. Usopp taunted them, saying that they did not have the will to “stay awake in the face of overwhelming presence.” He went on to claim that he had eliminated two of Tobi Roppo, and that the Animal Kingdom Pirates captured him with Nami, Tama and Speed are waiting in a safe place Speed says it’s Big Mom’s Haki taking down the Animal Kingdom Pirates because she’s on the same floor somewhere. trying to find out where Luffy is and contact Franky Franky assures her that the lack of news means that his friends are safe,
On Level 3, Brook carries a weakened Robin as the floor burns uncontrollably around him. People began to evacuate to the Performance Floor to escape the fire. He passed a group of Alliance members and asked how the battle was going, but was told things were too chaotic to tell. Brook calls Jimbei on the Fourth Floor, fighting alongside the Kid Pirates, and warns that the Third Floor is on fire. That prompts Jimbei to ask who is fighting Kaido at the top of the Skull Dome. We get a glimpse of Hyogoro, Kawamatsu and the Samurai trying to stop the oncoming Pirates trying to escape the fire.
Atop the Skull Dome, Yamato and Kaido were still in the heat of battle. Yamato stated that Kaido always intended to kill him, this was confirmed by his father. Kaido replied, “This is not a family war. If you want to bear the name Oden, you must be ready for war.” Yamato asks if it’s a crime to admire someone, then declares his love for Oden.
We move on to a flashback where Kaido is told the “Goblin Princess” has been causing trouble for the past week and a young Yamato declares that he is Oden, begging his father to remove his chains. Kaido asked the child if he was responsible for the countless Pirates that were knocked down around him. Yamato said that they had just fallen, then begged Kaido for some food. Kaido realizes that Yamato can use Conqueror Haki, but replies that if Yamato wants to take Oden’s name, then he can die. Kaido leaves Yamato in a cave, and says he will give him a month to “reawaken.” His servant protested, saying that Yamato was really going to die and that the samurai were locked in there too. Yamato begged Kaido not to leave himself in the dark.
Before leaving, he turned his attention to the samurai, saying that if they joined his army, he would let them go. Then he had some food brought, but only enough for one person. He also carries a sword. Yamato pleads with Kaido, saying that the samurai will obviously kill the child because he is Kaido’s. Kaido asked, “But aren’t you Oden?” Yamato thinks it’s true, but he’s smart enough to know that the samurai hate him for being Kaido’s son. Yamato knew that the samurai would scramble for food, but only after they had killed him,
The samurai gave food to Yamato and turned their backs on him, saying that a samurai doesn’t feel hungry. Yamato believed them, thought they were amazing, and began to eat while thanking them with a mouth full of rice. He asked them if he too could be a samurai, and one of them cut the chain holding him to the wall. Samurai replied that Yamato was Kozuki Oden and that he was loved by everyone. Yamato asked the samurai’s name, and he replied, “What name does a samurai samurai need…? Just call me So-And-So.”
Yamato asks the samurai to read Oden’s diary to him, and they are shocked to see that it is Oden’s travel diary. They read it to young Yamato, who was inspired by its contents. After ten days, the samurai realized that Kaido was serious about letting his son die. They say they won’t be here for another 20 years to witness the battle, but Yamato promises them that he will fight on Wano’s side. They say his words warm their hearts, and they help him escape, putting their lives in jeopardy. They told Yamato that they knew they would die, but that it was better to waste their lives in the cave.
Today, Yamato claims that he is not alone. He asks Kaido why he stole not only Yamato’s freedom but also Wano’s. Kaido replies that life is not a series of simple questions with simple answers. He debuts the Eight Trigrams of Thunder in Yamato before the final chapter ends.
