Chapter 1037 of One Piece continues the battle between Kaido and Luffy and reveals that there is one more Devil Fruit secret that needs to be discovered.

In Chapter 1036, Zorro finally defeated King, cutting off a pair of his wings. Downstairs, below, Yamato finally reached the Weapons Storage Cellar in the basement, but a member of the Number Army named Rokki was sleeping in front of the door. Thankfully, Fuga was still running behind Yamato who asked him to quickly move Rokki. Fuga then lunges forward and crashes into Rokki, knocking down the door in the process. Back at the castle, Usopp is doing his best to protect both Kin’emon and Kikunojo from a group of Animal Kingdom Pirates. The two samurai were walking back and forth, saying that Usopp should lead the other and run while leaving the other. Usopp, fed up with their dying wishes and pride, says he did what it took to survive, whether it made him look pathetic or not.
Suddenly, Kiku’s brother Izo appeared and surprised Usopp by calling his name, telling him to take the two samurai and run away. Usopp and Hamlet quickly followed his orders as Izo held back the pirates long enough for them to escape. On Level 3, Raizo and Fukurokuju are holding each other in place using paralysis jutsu as the room around them continues to burn. In Treasure, Orochi remains with Komurasaki, asking her to play her favorite song. Back in the basement, Apoo is trying to escape two masked CP0 members chasing Robin and Brook. However, they quickly dispatched the Numbers member that Apoo left behind. They then received a call from one of their countrymen, who informed them of the demise of the Main Performers and began to discuss how if the new generation of pirates would win. During the war, it could spark a worldwide movement. Finally, it’s time for the battle between Kaido and Luffy.
Chapter 1037 opens in the Flower Capital, where the Fire Festival begins to end. Lanterns are being prepared to be released into the sky with wishes written on them. Back on Onigashima, Luffy and Kaido are still in battle. This didn’t stop the drinking Kaido from becoming stunned, as he told Luffy he drank because he was having fun. He offered Luffy a drink, noting that a party was supposed to be held on the island but the Alliance didn’t decide to attack during the Fire Festival. Then he burst out laughing, completely silent.
Luffy attacks him, saying that Kaido had better not use his drunken state as an excuse to lose. Kaido conceals it, saying that getting drunk won’t hinder his fight and that it is a sign of his acceptance of Luffy. As he continued to laugh, Luffy was about to attack, but Kaido dodged it. As they fight, Kaido begins to experience different stages and emotions, from laughing to sad to crying. He swung his trigram at Luffy, but the Straw Hat Captain dodged and landed a powerful kick to Kaido’s face.
Kaido recovered quickly, and the two literally leaned forward, creating black lightning around them from the force of Haki. This time, Luffy is sent flying, noticing that Kaido’s Haki is getting stronger. Kaido fires an energy blast at Luffy, who is dodging. Luffy counterattacks with Roc Kundali: Gatling while Kaido unleashes his Dragons attack. They exchanged attacks, landing multiple hits before Luffy dodged another trigram swing from Kaido and kicked him hard in the stomach.
Then on to Marijoa, where leaders of the World Government had gathered and were talking about the situation in Wano. They get the impression that Robin should have been arrested by now, and they begin plotting against someone they consider a nuisance. On ships sent by the World Government, one of the watchers reported on a huge shadow, and said it could be an island when asked on the radio what it was. Returning to the leaders, they became worried about the awakening of the Devil Fruit. One of the leaders demanded an explanation for the unique name given to the fruit in question. He goes on to ask why it was erased from history, and the chapter ends when the giant silhouette of what appears to be Zunesha looms over the World Government ships.
