The ruling organization in One Piece – World Government – officially has five leaders called the Gorosei or Five Elder Planets instead of one ruler. They are a group of five Heavenly Dragons that oversee the Marines and all matters within the allied nations.
Throughout the years, Eiichiro Oda kept his family name a mystery, even to the point of anonymity. It wasn’t until recently that the series revealed their names along with their titles. In Reverie’s flashback, we see them transform into demonic creatures (just shadows) to defeat Sabo.
Now that Saturn has arrived at Egghead Island, his power turns out to be beyond the reach of any human or creature. The fact that he can make someone’s head explode with just a look is disturbing. One Piece Chapter 1095 gives an important hint that confirms that the Gorosei cannot be human
Over the years, the Gorosei have remained a mystery, but at least they have a human form. That is until they transform into demonic creatures, causing Sabo to believe that the top of the world is actually hell. Forms are not revealed in Reverie’s flashbacks.
In One Piece Chapter 1094, we see Saturn enter Egghead with the help of the summoning circle and transform into something like an Ushi-oni, a demon, from Western Japanese folklore. There was no doubt that the other four had similar abilities. In addition, this Chapter also reveals the truth behind God Valley and the cause of the incident 38 years ago.
However, in the flashback, the Gorosei have the same appearance as they do now – meaning they haven’t aged a day. On the other hand, Saint Garling Figarland is clearly much younger than now. Regardless of which timeline the Gorosei appear in in One Piece, they all look exactly the same.
This chapter also shows that after Bonney stabbed Saturn, the wound healed almost immediately. Such healing abilities are inhumane and beyond the capabilities of a devil fruit. The series only shows that three devil fruits can save other people’s lives.
All of these hints make even more sense in One Piece Chapter 1090, when Gorosei compares humans to insects. Although they are arrogant, their contempt for all of humanity shows that there is more to it than meets the eye.
