Momonosuke may be more important than fans think given the power attached to one of the Ancient Weapons.
Kodoani.com – Momonosuke is one of the most attractive characters in One Piece’s post time, especially the Wano country part. Introduced in Punk Hazard as the son of Kin’emon, who accidentally ate a failed Devil Fruit, no one expected him to play a big role in the series that followed. However, over time, it was revealed that Momonosuke was indeed dubbed the next Shogun of Wano Country.
In the Wano Country part of One Piece, Momonosuke’s importance has crossed the roof and since then, he has become a compelling character with an important role that even goes beyond his own. Not only did he face his fears with great bravery, but he also earned the right to become the country’s next Shogun. Momonosuke is quite special and as far as things go, he could be made much more special due to his relationship with one of the Ancient Weapons – the Pluton.
Momonosuke’s Strange Power
The truth about Momonosuke was revealed in the Zou arc, where his Kozuki lineage was introduced to fans. Momonosuke said that in the past he used to travel with people like Roger on his ship. In the same story arc, Jack launched an attack on Zunesha and while both Luffy and Momonosuke could hear Zunesha’s screams, only the former could command it to defeat Jack. This power is extraordinary and goes beyond even the Voice of Everything.
Luffy tried to talk to Zunesha but failed. At the same time, Inuarashi and Nekomamushi mention that both Oden and Roger can hear the same voice but like Luffy, they cannot command the monster. However, somehow Momonosuke can and this ability is unique to him, which is a big sign that he is truly special. Interestingly, Momonosuke isn’t the only one with this kind of power and fans have seen one with a similar ability before during the Fish-Man Island arc.
Parallel to Shirahoshi
Shirahoshi was introduced to fans as the first Ancient Weapon in the Fish-Man Island installment. Right from her introduction, it’s clear that there’s something different about her as she’s always locked up and protected. While a lot of this threat is due to Vander Decken IX, it’s also about protecting her true powers and keeping them from falling into the wrong hands. Shirahoshi is the ancient weapon Poseidon. Every few centuries, a mermaid is born on Fish-Man Island, and she holds command of all the Sea Kings.
This power is quite dangerous and has the ability to destroy the entire world. It is believed that during the Void Century, Poseidon was Joy Boy’s good friend and made a covenant with him that she would order all the Sea Kings to bring Noah to the surface so that Fishman and Merfolk could live there. Unfortunately, Joy Boy didn’t keep the Poneglyph-related promise he left in the Sea Forest.
Centuries later, Shirahoshi was born with similar powers, and if guided by the next Joy Boy, she could help save the world. Fans already know that Luffy is the next Joy Boy and will eventually team up with Shirahoshi to destroy Fish-Man Island and bring their race to the surface. However, Luffy has no command of the Sea Kings. Similarly, Roger and Oden do not possess this power despite being able to hear the voices of the Sea Kings. Shirahoshi is the only one who can and this is what makes her an Ancient Weapon. Apparently, this is quite similar to the power Momonosuke possesses as he is the only one who can control Zunesha, although others can also hear its voice.
How Momonosuke bound to Pluton
In Wano Country, it is finally revealed that Ancient Weapon Pluton slept in Wano country. Deep beneath the old Wano, the Ancient Weapon has been hidden since the Void Century, and to unleash it, one needs to destroy Wano’s borders and open the country to the world. Doing so will result in the use of Ancient Weapon. Interestingly, in the Water Seven arc, Pluton is actually a warship, not a human. The shipbuilders of country 7 built the ancient ship on the island during the Void Century and it was likely used in the war against the 20 Kings. Unfortunately, the Ancient Kingdom lost the battle and Pluton was buried under Wano until the next Joy Boy appeared to challenge the enemy once more.
While many people think that Pluton is a warship contradicts the fact that Momonosuke is his own weapon, that is not necessarily the case. It must be remembered that only Momonosuke has control of Zunesha and will certainly be the only one who can control Pluton. So even though Pluton is a warship, Momonosuke will be its key just as Shirahoshi ordered the Sea King to be her weapon. In that sense, Momonosuke possesses great importance in the latter story as he is not only the Shogun of Wano, but also holds the power of an Ancient Weapon within his reach. Just as Oden once said, Momonosuke is unmatched, and his tremendous strength certainly proves it.
