Zoro would be a police officer if not a pirate
Many viewers have imagined what careers Zoro and his friends might have pursued if they weren’t pirates and lived a more normal life. Oda addressed this issue in SBS volume 76 of the manga, revealing what each Straw Hat member’s profession would be.
If Zoro wasn’t a pirate, he would pursue a career as a police officer. This is obviously quite ‘ironic’ since he is an outlaw, but this is a profession that suits Zoro’s style. Although he always appears tough, Zoro is a person who cares for others and always protects the weak against oppression.
Zoro has two different names
In the American translation, Zoro’s name is sometimes pronounced “Zolo”, changing the R to an L. This is a common change in language translations, but character renaming also occurs for reasons such as due to copyright.
The original name may be related to copyright issues because of its similarity to the character Don Diego de La Veja, also known as Zorro. So in the English version, he is called Zolo in the manga and the old 4Kids dub. In Funimation’s dubbed version, he is better known as Zoro.
Zoro is the only person Luffy decided to recruit without meeting him first
Luffy always builds and maintains a strong friendship with every member of the crew who he decides to recruit. Normally, Luffy only ‘recruits’ someone after meeting them, but Zoro is an exception.
At the beginning of the journey, Luffy only knew Zoro through the reputation that Koby told him. Zoro’s reputation made Luffy curious so he decided that Pirate Hunter would be the first person he recruited to his crew.
Therefore, Zoro is the only member recruited by Luffy without meeting them directly before.
Zoro has never called Sanji by name
Zoro became one of the most famous pirates of his generation, always treating everyone equally but Sanji was an exception. It can be seen that these two guys often insult each other and compete with each other.
Notably, in the Japanese manga version, Zoro never calls Sanji by name. And in SBS episode 73, a fan pinpointed the exact number of terms the two used between them: Sanji called Zoro by his first name but ‘Marimo’ still owed that to his ‘colleague’.
Zoro was the first person to kill a Dragon after Ryuma
After two years of training with Dracule Mihawk, Zoro became much stronger and prepared to enter the New World. Among his greatest feats to date, he severed the head of a giant Dragon with his sword.
Before Zoro, the only person to ever kill a dragon in One Piece was Ryuma, the legendary samurai of Wano. Ryuma first appeared in Oda’s one-shot called Monster, considered a classic part of One Piece. Like Zoro, Ryuma killed a dragon by beheading it.
