Sonic Frontiers is very likely to have a sequel very soon because there are so many compelling plot elements that need to be exploited.
Throughout the story in the game, Sonic Frontiers introduces players to the world and how to build attractive characters. The first is the birth of ancient humanity, an age-old race of advanced creatures that Sonic and his friends learn about over the course of the story. It is revealed that the Chaos Emeralds, a staple of the Sonic franchise since the first game, are indeed inherently descended from ancient humanity itself.
Furthermore, Sonic Frontiers introduces a brand new character named Sage. Sage is an AI created by Dr. Eggman, and as such she considers him a father figure. However, Sage also befriends Sonic and even cooperates with him in the latter half of the game. At the end of the game Sonic’s best friends including Tails, Knuckles and Amy all separate from Sonic to go and experience their own adventures, a moment that marks the turn of events where Sonic and his longtime friends their year had to temporarily part.
This will create many new directions in the future when opening up many different storylines of the characters. According to my hypothesis, Sonic Frontiers can go in the following directions, that is, it is possible to continue the expanded plot based on the story of the ancient people because there are still many details that have not been clarified in the first part. First of all, it’s possible that they still exist and will most likely support working with Sonic in the sequel, which is a great potential in how to exploit the sequel storyline. Sonic will have new friends like Big the Cat or Silver the Hedgehog, etc.
Also, with the advent of Sage, there are now more and more common connections between Sonic and Eggman’s arch-enemies. They both care about Sage and even have a few tense but polite moments with each other throughout Sonic Frontiers’ adventure. This could then open the door to potential cooperation between Sonic and Eggman, even if it is only temporary, perhaps against a more powerful Ancient Human race or some other more dangerous foe.
In the end, with Sonic’s best friends leaving to pursue their own goals, fans are likely to see an important period overlooked with some character redesigns. when they return to Sonic. Alternatively, a major plot point of the Sonic Frontiers sequel could have Sonic traverse an even wider map than the one in Frontiers in search of and reunited with all his friends. Let’s wait and see what SEGA will do for the Sonic Frontiers sequel.
