Author Kugane Maruyama thanked fans for the incredible success and popularity of the Overlord novel series on its 10th anniversary.
Kodoani.com – Creator OverlordKugane Maruyama thanked fans for their support in honor of the tenth anniversary of the series.
The author’s heartfelt message was posted on the brand’s official Twitter. In it, Maruyama explains how he still goes to Akihabara “to see if anyone actually buys [Overlord] release date or not.” He wrote, “Ten years ago, today was my first day checking out a bookstore in Akihabara on my way home from work, and it all seemed to happen so fast.” Maruyama continued to thank “everyone who has followed me so far! I will continue to do my best to bring even better things in the future!”
In the message, Maruyama also wished Satoshi Hino, the voice actor for the main character Ainz Ooal Gown in the speedy Overlord anime adaptation. Hino recently tested positive for coronavirus (COVID-19) and was subsequently forced to miss a public taping of the special anniversary show for the series.

Maruyama originally published his Overlord light novel series independently online before the series was acquired by publisher Enterbrain, a Kadokawa affiliate. As of July 2012, a total of 16 volumes of Overlord have been published and more than seven million copies of the light novels are currently in circulation worldwide.
An isekai series set in a dark fantasy world, Overlord follows veteran video gamer Momonga, a huge fan of YGGDRASIL, a massively multiplayer online role-playing game. When the game is scheduled to close permanently, the guy decides to stay in the game until it closes. However, he later finds himself trapped in the game along with its numerous NPCs, who are beginning to develop abilities resembling a real-life character. With no way to return to the real world, Momonga decides to assume the identity of his character, Ainz Ooal Gown, and sets out to discover if anyone else from the real world is trapped.
The anime adaptation of Madhouse (The Vampire Dies in No Time) premiered its first season in July 2015 while Season 4 of Overlord premiered in July. Along with Hino, many voice cast members from the first three seasons. first reprise their roles for Overlord Season 4, including Emiri Kato (Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid) as Aura Bella Fiora, Masayuki Katou (Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma: The Fifth Plate) as Demiurge, Kenta Miyake (Berserk: The Golden Age Arc I – The Egg of the King) as Cocytus and Yumi Uchiyama (The Devil Is a Part-Timer!) as Mare Bello Fiore.
