Overwatch 2 players saw long queues, DDoS attacks, and several bugs on the day of the game’s release.
Overwatch 2’s launch attracted a lot of attention “thanks to” unbelievably long queue times, some bugs but worst of all, mass DDoS attacks.
In the “Overwatch 2 Known Issues” thread on the forum, community manager Jodie wrote: “Some players have merged their PC accounts with the Console and are experiencing unexpected server errors. Under the comments section , many people have attested to this bug and also reported other bugs that are not listed. After practicing patience in queues of thousands, some players got stuck at “0 Players before you” and unable to enter the Lobby Some people fixed this issue by refreshing the game, but another got stuck in the loop.
Another more serious error is that the player’s PC is completely suspended in the queue. One user even encountered a blue screen (the type of screen that only appears on Windows when the PC has a fatal error that shuts down the operating system, forcing a restart). This could be due to intense CPU usage, one player said just on the login menu his device CPU has reached 90%.
The most frequent problem players face right now is account merge. This is part of the new cross-platform progress Overwatch 2 has rolled out. Players can merge fashion items, stats, levels, and more between their accounts by connecting their Battle.net account to Xbox and PlayStation. However, the merge process has caused some notable problems such as lack of skins, currency as well as making it impossible for players to experience Overwatch 2. This issue has not been completely fixed, although the General patches have been released.
Blizzard President Mike Ybarra announced that servers are struggling against DDoS attacks and that the development team is working to mitigate/control them. So login or disconnection issues that occurred during the game’s launch day could be traced back to the above attack rather than one of the reported bugs.
