Contrary to initial information, Overwatch 2 director Aaron Keller has revealed that this sequel will completely replace Overwatch.

Overwatch 2

Overwatch 2 will release on October 4 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

Contrary to previous reports, Blizzard has now stated that Overwatch 2 will completely replace Overwatch when it launches on October 4. The 2016 team-based multiplayer shooter title takes players to a world Colorful world of heroes. Blizzard originally stated that Overwatch would remain supported after the launch of its sequel, but now the developer says that the release of Overwatch 2 will end support for the first game.

As the sequel to Blizzard’s first team-based shooter, Overwatch 2 will introduce a host of new content for players to enjoy. At launch on October 4, the game will include many new heroes, including a gun-wielding DPS-class Sojourn and a brutal tanker named Junker Queen. The game’s first season will also include six new maps that will take players to exotic landmarks like New York City, Portugal, and Rio. In a drastic change from the first installment, Overwatch 2 will see players compete in two teams of five rather than two teams of six. Blizzard recently announced that Overwatch 2 will also be free to play, meaning that all fans will be able to experience the second installment of the series for free.

During a recent Reddit AMA, Overwatch 2 director Aaron Keller revealed that Overwatch 2 will completely replace Overwatch at launch. When the sequel was first announced, Blizzard said that the first game would still be supported, but that plan has apparently changed. Continued Overwatch support will end, forcing players to switch to Overmatch 2 and its new mechanics. However, Overwatch 2’s free-to-play nature means that fans won’t really have to spend extra money to continue experiencing the game.

Not supporting the first part will likely make many gamers unhappy.

Following the recent Xbox & Bethesda game showcase event, a detailed Overwatch 2 preview has revealed more details about the upcoming title and its roadmap. At launch on October 4, the team fps game will include three new heroes, six new maps, new game modes, new Mythic skins and more. December 6 will then begin season 2, bringing with it a new tanker, a new map, over 30 new skins and more. Blizzard is expected to support Overwatch 2 well in the future, and its free-to-play model means any gamer can join in.

Overwatch 2 has changed dramatically since its announcement, with the free streaming service title now poised to completely replace its predecessor. This means that players have no choice but to rework the character, change the mechanics and the 5v5 format of the sequel. However, Overwatch 2’s free-to-play nature means that players who already own Overwatch can avoid paying full price for its sequel.
