Publisher Perfect World Entertainment was acquired by Embracer Group in December 2021, now has a new name.
Chinese game publisher Perfect World Entertainment has been renamed Gearbox Publishing, after merging with the company in 2021.
According to a blog post announcing the change, the team and on-going projects including Neverwinter, Star Trek Online and Have a Nice Death remain unchanged.
Products previously released under the Perfect World Entertainment brand such as Remnant: From The Ashes and the Torchlight series will remain under the Gearbox Publishing umbrella.
“We appreciate that players love and care about our games and join us on this journey to new horizons,” the post read. “New partnerships mean bigger and better things, and we’d love to show you all the new experiences the company has been working on as Gearbox Publishing.”
Perfect World Entertainment was acquired by Embracer Group in December 2021 along with another Perfect Worlds subsidiary, Cryptic Studios. Both studios are now part of Gearbox Publishing.
Gearbox also acquired Tiny Tina co-developer Lost Boys Interactive for an undisclosed amount.
Embracer Group AB (formerly Nordic Games Licensing AB and THQ Nordic AB) is a Swedish video game and media company, headquartered in Karlstad. The company was founded as Nordic Games Licensing in 2011 as part of Nordic Games Group and is the parent company of publisher Nordic Games GmbH.
The company acquired a number of properties from JoWooD in 2011 and THQ in 2013. In August 2016, Nordic Games Licensing and their subsidiary changed their name to THQ Nordic AB and THQ Nordic GmbH, using “THQ” trademark, which it purchased in 2014.
In November 2016, it became a public company listed on Nasdaq First North. During 2018, THQ Nordic acquired Koch Media Holding (the parent company of Koch Media) and Coffee Stain Holding (the parent company of Coffee Stain Studios), both of which became independent operating groups within THQ Nordic, complements THQ Nordic GmbH.
