A new PlayStation State of Play livestream was just announced this weekend. Sony occasionally hosts special State of Play events to showcase upcoming games for PlayStation 5, although these events typically differ from larger PlayStation Showcase livestreams in that they are shorter and mainly focuses on smaller titles with one or two AAA titles. The last PlayStation State of Play event took place in April and brought attention to Final Fantasy 16 before its successful launch two months later.
Since then, PlayStation fans have been eagerly awaiting the next State of Play, especially after June’s blockbuster PlayStation Showcase, which showcased big upcoming games like Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, long-awaited remakes of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater and Assassin’s Creed: Mirage. Late last month, rumors began circulating that Sony planned to hold another State of Play in September after the company announced a price increase for its PlayStation Plus subscription service.
Now, these rumors have been officially confirmed by the official PlayStation blog, which announced a new PlayStation showcase for Thursday, September 14. According to Shawne Benson of PlayStation’s Global Third Party Relations team . Unlike the massive PlayStation Showcase from June, this State of Play will primarily focus on previously announced titles, including PlayStation VR games, indie titles, and big AAA offerings from third party partners.

As fate would have it, this newly announced PlayStation State of Play event isn’t the only livestream happening this weekend. Earlier today, Nintendo verified similar rumors about a new September 2023 Direct event also taking place on Thursday, with fans guessing that a Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon remake was announced first that and spin-off game Princess Peach will be among the titles featured. This event, no specific titles have been confirmed yet, although players can get a final look at Mortal Kombat 1 before its highly anticipated launch next week.
Many were feeling that a new State of Play was overdue before this latest announcement, especially as Microsoft’s exclusive Starfield is currently dominating the gaming market following its release last week. Fans can get a clearer look at what Sony has in store over the next few months by tuning in to the event today, September 14, or watch back after the livestream.
