The plot in Sons of the Forest is rooted in greed, and that greed is the tragedy that leads to later pain.
Greed can lead us to victory, but once greed overshadows reason, it will slowly swallow people whole. Every tragedy in Sons of the Forest stems from an expedition in the service of greed. But in the end, it turned all participants into monsters with hideous shapes reflecting their greed.
The person who started the series of tragedies was billionaire Edward Puffton, chairman of the Puffton Group. Due to fierce competition in the market, Sir Edward accidentally found something he should not have touched on a deserted island. From mining, Edward built a resort, and then a research station, until one day, disaster suddenly struck…
Tough start
It has been 20 years since the events in The Forest ended. The main character and his teammates are now veteran soldiers. They are hired by the Puff Group owned by billionaire Edward to search for the billionaire’s family who is currently missing on a mysterious island. Information of the victims included billionaire Edward Puffton, his wife Barbara and daughter Virginia Puffton.
When preparing to land on the island, the helicopter carrying the mercenary group was suddenly ambushed by a mysterious object causing it to fall into the forest in everyone’s panic. In the end, thanks to being stuck on a treetop, the main character survived a free fall from above. In this section, there are two other cases when the helicopter crashed into the mountain or fell into the sea.
If the helicopter crashes into the mountain, the protagonist’s teammates will die immediately after the accident and himself will be thrown down the plane. If the location of the helicopter landing is the sea, the main character will witness the scene where his teammates are dragged into the water by a mysterious force, and he will be washed ashore by the waves after trying to escape the helicopter.
Waking up from the impact, the protagonist finds a man staring at him. When he was about to call for help, he was kicked and knocked unconscious with the butt of a gun. I don’t know how long it took, the main character woke up to find that the other guy was gone. He then picked up the necessary items that were falling everywhere and found his teammate Kelvin still alive but in a panic.
After that, although Kelvin calmed down, the injury from the helicopter crash made him temporarily deaf, so he could only communicate through handwritten notes.
How the story ends
With no means of returning to the mainland, the protagonist and Kelvin must find a way to survive on the island. Meanwhile, they still did not forget to search for the whereabouts of billionaire Edward Puffton through the GPS. This process is not easy when monsters and ferocious tribes always find a way to deal with them. In addition, they also discovered and befriended Virginia Puffton, the billionaire’s deformed but capable fighting daughter.
After exploring the island for a while, they finally found a mysterious cellar hidden in the layers of soil, next to a small stream. Below is a modern complex built for human habitation but has been abandoned. While gathering survival supplies in the area, they found a magnetic card from a man named Carl Planter and another card named Virginia Puffton.
Using two cards, the main character goes to the last bunker, where the billionaire Puffton family lives and finds Timmy Leblanc fighting a huge monster named Sluggy. And if you remember, Timmy is the boy who appeared in the game The Forest. It doesn’t matter if I don’t remember, I will repeat it a bit to facilitate the next development of Sons of the Forest.
In the previous game, young Timmy was kidnapped by Dr. Mathew Cross in order to revive his daughter, Megan Cross. After Timmy died, his father Eric Leblanc, who is also the main character of the first part, revived him. Timmy then matures normally, but in his body still exists the terrifying sequelae from resurrecting the dead.
Back to Sons of the Forest, the main character with a weapon wants to help Timmy but is knocked unconscious by the Sluggy. Thanks to Eric Leblanc’s sudden appearance, Timmy was rescued, but he was attacked by a man in a silver shirt accompanied by three haters. The main character also realizes that this is the person who used the butt of the gun to knock him unconscious before.
The main character does not know who he is, but if you finish playing and look up the game’s wiki, you will know that he is Zhang Jianyu, assistant security department of Puff company. It is still unclear why he attacked the main character. When he regained consciousness, he realized where Eric and Timmy had gone, the Sluggy had been destroyed since when.
Searching for a while, he discovered a golden door, inside the door there was a small gap just enough to squeeze through, the end of the path was a mysterious cube, where Timmy was waiting. When the main character follows Timmy into the cube, Eric promptly rushes inside before the door closes completely. The man in the silver shirt was locked outside.
The cube then shook violently, Timmy started screaming and was split into several other Timmys for a moment then returned to normal. At this time, the other side of the cube appears the dark landscape of the modern city with architecture that does not belong to the earth. When the earthquake passed, the door opened on its own and the person locked outside became a horribly mutant creature.
The main character will then have two options: safely leave with Eric and Timmy on the Puff corporation’s helicopter. Or stay here to continue fighting the unfriendly people on the island. Also the game has another ending with Virginia Puffton. If the protagonist befriends Virginia and puts her inside the cube after it closes, Virginia will become extremely weak after the shaking and fall into the protagonist’s lap.
The two will then leave the nightmare island together in Eric and Timmy’s helicopter.
Things left open
Just a summary of what happened in Sons of the Forest, because this is only the Early Access version of the game, we can see, the story in Sons of the Forest still has many curious points that have not been done. Obviously, the following explanations are just my theories and are referenced from the foreign fan community.
First, let’s talk about Timmy and Eric’s appearance, in the ending of The Forest, it can be seen that Timmy is heavily affected by the resurrection. These serious sequelae persist into adulthood. So the reason why both of them came to this island, I think is none other than to cure the sequelae. In Sons of the Forest, some parts of Timmy look like they are having a convulsion, tired, but stronger after stepping out of the cube.
So what is that cube? Based on the cutscene, it can be speculated that the cube has the ability to move between dimensions. The strange city image is real but from a different universe. In the game, we sometimes see emails or books with content about parallel universes or time travel.
These are the details that the manufacturer wants to use to imply to the player that traveling through time and space in The Forest universe is entirely possible. In addition to the ability to travel through time and space, many people have theorized that the cube has the ability to heal mutations for those standing inside. At the same time causing mutations for the unlucky people locked outside like the case of the guy in the silver shirt.
This theory is quite correct in the case of Timmy and the guy in the silver shirt, but with Virginia it is different. We can see, in the ending of Virginia, despite being brought inside the cube and experiencing pain, she still retains the original appearance and has not changed at all.
To this day, the fan community is still debating whether Virginia was transformed after arriving on the island or was born. So I boldly hypothesized that if the cube could not transform people with congenital mutations. So the reason Virginia wasn’t “healed” when the cube started up was because she was born with that mutant form.
At this point, many of you will wonder what about Virginia’s parents, Mr. Edward and Mrs. Barbara? In update 01 of Sons of the Forest, Edward and Barbara were added content by the publisher when turning them into mutants that appeared in bunkers storing food and food. So far, the reason these two are mutated is not clear, but it is likely related to the cube at the end of the game.
Where is Billionaire Edward?
One more issue that everyone cares about is why billionaire Edward’s family is on this island. Based on the clues found on the island, the fan community agreed that even before The Forest game happened, billionaire Edward was fascinated with ancient artifacts.
Based on an email sent on January 7 by an employee named Rob Blue found in the bunker, we learn that Edward later discovered on this mysterious island a precious metal material, so he proceeded to mine it. waterfall. He also built a resort for the rich under the bunkers and named it Holosprings.
In my opinion, this resort is just a cover for illegal research on the island and the residence of the rich or politicians who want to pour money into it. However, one mistake by Edward turned everyone present there into monsters. But at the moment, I still have not determined exactly what the error is and where it originates from.
The most suspicious thing right now is the cube, I don’t know if I missed any information if so, please leave a comment below. An important piece of information that I think will be the crux of the story when the game is completed. That is the fact that Edward’s company has a competitive relationship with the company Sahara Therapeutics, the villains of season 1.
At the beginning of the game, we will see the main character’s helicopter being attacked, very similar to the scenario of holding a gun to shoot to find more experimental objects of the Sahara company in part 1. In addition, in the bunkers, we will find saw an email exchange between an employee named Jackson Poulet and someone named Hector Liter. Many people believe that Hector Liter is a spy installed by Sahara to investigate information on Puffton’s side, so I wonder, is it possible that the tragedy that the Puffton family encountered is related to the Sahara company?
