While each member of the Pokémon Team Rocket trio has their own tragic past, it’s Jessie’s story that is the most troubling of them all.
Team Rocket has been a staple of the Pokémon series since its anime debut in the ’90s. Over time, Anime has revealed more about the goofy trio and what made them members of the evil organization. , despite having a very kind heart. However, one member’s story becomes more and more tragic as it goes deeper.
Jessie’s mother Miyamoto is a high-ranking member of Team Rocket and the first person to record Mew’s tape during a mission to South America. She is sent by Madame Boss to find a way to capture Mew, which means she has to leave a young Jessie behind. During this mission, she was trapped in an avalanche and was presumed dead. Jessie, only about five years old, was then sent to live with a young man.
Things don’t get any easier for Jessie in this new home. There is very little money, and Jessie says that there are days when the only food is snow. Despite her circumstances, Jessie looks back on these times fondly. When she was growing up, she had a dream to make it big and become famous. During her childhood, she had a crush on Astin, who wanted her to leave with him and become a Pokemon Coordinator, but Jessie stayed because she and two friends were training to become pop idols. . While two of her friends passed their auditions, Jessie didn’t.
After reaching adulthood, Jessie left home to attend Pokemon Nursing School, where she trained with one of Chansey’s classes – that’s because she didn’t qualify to attend a school for humans. She befriends one of the Chanseys there and shows off some of the skills needed to be a nurse. However, as a human, she cannot use Sing as her classmates and cannot graduate.
The timeline of Jessie’s life after nursing school is a bit hazy. At one point she was a model, she joined a bike gang, she was a weather girl and she is said to have had a brief stint as a ninja. The way she meets James has been tweaked a few times, when they meet at Pokémon Tech, meet in a cycling gang, or meet up after joining Team Rocket. Regardless of how they met, they’ve been together ever since and that’s definitely for the better.
Without Meowth and James, Jessie’s life could very well have been different. While she’ll still be part of Team Rocket, she’ll probably work as a lone operative, and given how effective her plan has been in the past, maybe not. a very good plan. These failures, piled on top of her previous ventures, will most likely take a huge toll on her mental health and she won’t be as happy as she is now. But luckily for her, she has James and Meowth to keep her spirits up and they can continue to fail together.
