The Pokemon UNITE MOBA game has reached a new milestone with over 70 million downloads globally since its launch.
The information appears in the description of the latest video on the official Japanese Pokemon YouTube channel. The game’s downloads have surpassed the 70 million mark both on Nintendo Switch and mobile devices. The game hit 50 downloads last December.
Pokemon UNITE is a free-to-play MOBA developed by Tencent’s subsidiary TiMi Studios and distributed by The Pokemon Company. The game launched on Nintendo Switch in July 2021 and launched on mobile devices in September of the same year. The game generated $1.7 million on iOS and Android in five days
This is a multiplayer online battle arena game, with standard matches consisting of two teams of 5 players each. Each match has a time limit and the team with the highest total score by the end of each match wins.
There are also quick battles, which have 4 people per team and last 5 minutes. A team can also win if the opposing team surrenders. Surrender is possible only if the match is halfway through and if a majority of votes are reached among the team members. If there is a tie, the team with the first draw wins.
The game map, Aeos Island, is divided into two halves, each with multiple control points. Players score points for their team by defeating the wild Pokemon non-player character.
However, if the player is hit by an attack, they will be interrupted and must try again. Players can keep between 30 and 50 points depending on the stage of the game and the level. Each target area can hold a certain number of points, and when the limit is reached, it will be destroyed.
When the player tries to attack towards the opposing team’s side on the map, the active target area will slow the movement speed of the enemy Pokemon entering it, but increase the movement speed of the allied Pokemon.
