After a long wait for horror game fans, Poppy Playtime Chapter 2 finally has an official release date from developer MOB Games.
MOB Games has finally announced the release date of Poppy Playtime Chapter 2, the highly-anticipated continuation of one of the most popular indie horror games of the past few years. The Poppy Playtime Chapter 2 release date was leaked in early April, thanks to the SteamDB listing, but it looks like the original leak was a few days off.
Poppy Playtime Chapter 2 will continue directly from the first game’s story, with players still trapped in the Playtime Co factory. Poppy Playtime Chapter 1 ends with the player escaping the murderous siege of Huggy Wuggy, who is crushed by a crate and dropped from a conveyor belt. It has been revealed that Poppy Playtime Chapter 2 will be a lot longer than the original game and will take over an hour to complete, but there are new threats players must face. Huggy Wuggy may not have earned the commission, but there’s a new monster in town, as Poppy Playtime players face the new game Mommy Long Legs, which is a spider-like creature. The first chapter ends with the player freeing the Poppy doll from its container, and it’s unclear how it will play out in the events of the next episode.
Poppy Playtime fans won’t have to wait long to experience the game’s next episode, as Poppy Playtime Chapter 2 will be released for PC via Steam on Thursday, May 5. Announced by MOB Games on Twitter, revealed the latest feature promo image of chapter 2 which can see Mommy Long Legs and the train.
Poppy Playtime Chapter 2 will be set as the Game Station in the Playtime Co. factory, which is the train station that runs through the building, and it even provides a potential exit. Players will face new toys, although it is believed that Mommy Long Legs is the main antagonist of the episode. It’s unclear if Huggy Wuggy will return, although its popularity means there’s a chance it will return in some form. Players will also have access to new gadgets, with the Green Hand allowing them to telecast without having to hang everything up. They can also use the Green Hand as a hanger to move through terrain and descend into new areas.
The Poppy Playtime franchise has garnered a lot of attention online, thanks to the videos featuring the title’s colorful aesthetic. Poppy Playtime led to a police alert, as the game looks kid-friendly on the outside, but is actually an unsettling horror beneath the surface. Expectations for Poppy Playtime Chapter 2 are high, and the new release offers a chance to prove that it can compete (or even outperform) the Five Nights at Freddy’s franchise.
