Insider Gaming reported that a new version of PlayStation 5 with a removable drive is expected to be released later this year. The new model will gradually reduce the current number of PlayStation 5s to cut production and shipping costs. However, this version is not PS5 Pro. When commenting on the removable version of the drive, a source said this is just the beginning of new hardware devices that will come to PlayStation users this generation.
Details about the specifications of the PS5 Pro are very limited. However, a recently published patent by PlayStation architect Mark Cerny suggests that Sony Interactive Entertainment is looking to “accelerate” ray tracing performance in games. Just like PS4 with PS4 Pro, PS5 Pro is sure to have higher visuals, performance and speed. The next generation of PlayStation – PS6 is unlikely to release until at least 2028. The launch of PS5 Pro later next year will bring the current console release schedule in line with its predecessor. In February, an industry insider told the Game Mess Decisions podcast that Sony was planning to host a new PlayStation Showcase ahead of E3. Insider Gaming also predicts that there’s a good chance that there will be a showcase of games including Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and its new hardware by the end of 2023.
